Interesting essay-like take. I like how in-depth you have gone. I do agree with everything but one thing - the toxic masculinity. Being good man is not about being lowkey abusive to your surroundings. Both Homelander and Soldier Boy are fucking toxic and making people around them feel worse. That is not a sign of masculinity, that is a sign of trouble. And even though theirs background is understandably wrong that doesn't excuse them to behave like children who cannot manage themselves. To be honest, I would probably be like Soldier Boy, if it were not for good internet man role models like Jocko Willink or some characters in tv shows. It is said, my father didn't teach me shit. It was my mother, internet, TV and lastly my girlfriend who is probably the best that has happened to me. Cheers for your work, looking forward to some more.

I’d say, Jesse James, Inglorious Bastards, Benjamin Button; Seven, Burn After Reading; Years in Tibet - too many too list! 👌🏽Shocking that he was banned from China. I haven’t seen 12 Years a Slave as I don’t like crying but what am achievement to have directed it himself.

How does he mirror the average modern man? He is a psychopath.He is emotionally unstable and a narcissist. He has immense wealth, beautiful but shallow girlfriend and an expansive apartment in a posh neighbourhood. More than 99% of men cannot afford his rich and swanky lifestyle. More than 80% of men aren't getting laid or have a girlfriend. Most men don't have the dark triad traits of Machievellianism, psychopathy and narcissism, which a majority of women are attracted to.

Bateman is not a psychopath, his motivations are fuelled by the need to fit in and by greed. While psychopaths have no motivations, just the slight interest in trying things
@Prodbyjah4642 жыл бұрын
I think his motivations run deeper, he tries to fit in but he knows that living this high class American lifestyle is boring and leaves him purposeless so he puts on a mask to fit in whilst repressing his urges for evil.

I understand Bateman primarily as a sociopath, unable to experience normal human emotion and forced to perform emotion and behavior in order to fit in and manipulate his way to the top. this analysis of him as a narcissist instead was very interesting and pretty convincing
