Been awhile since I’ve been on that route but I remember Flagstaff as having lots of pines.
@The.Wheelers18 күн бұрын
Yes Flagstaff has lots of pines and was cooler when we went through in May. Said they still had snow a couple weeks before.

Great video, thanks for posting. "Woodrow, you work harder than any two men I've ever met. Since you have taken it upon yourself to do all the work, i feel it is but my obligation, to do all the drinking, all the gambling and all the whoring".

It's beautiful but gets very muddy if it rains. I would recommend a 4x4.
@The.Wheelers3 ай бұрын
Yes. High clearance 4x4 for sure. We are in a Ram 1500. It was dry then but did have rain coming in as we drove.

What road are you on
@The.Wheelers3 ай бұрын
We are near the little town of Amalia N.M. We drove the Valle Vidal Road following the Costilla Creek. From Questa go north on 522, turn at Costilla on 196. Follow that past Amalia. That whole area is very pretty but I recommend high clearance and 4x4.

What time of year do you recommend this area?
@The.WheelersАй бұрын
@skiddyfishing June-Sept would be the best. They can get snow as late as May and early as October so those months might not be good.

Thank You so much for this video. I am heading that way and this video is a life saver. BTW What were you driving ? Is it doable in VW Atlas ? And can I do it in 1 tank of gas ?
@The.Wheelers4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. We were in a Ram 1500. This first stretch is doable in most vehicles unless they have gotten a lot of rain. This area is not too far off paved road and should be doable on one tank of fuel. There are other videos that show the rest of this drive which took us a back way from Questa to Cimmaron. That entire drive might require a higher profile vehicle but just the section in this video should be fine. We tend to carry extra fuel wherever we go just in case.

I have a place at the end of the dirt road at the start. I always wondered where and how high up they took the horses.
@The.Wheelers4 ай бұрын
Yeah. It's pretty much the same every year. This was the 1 hour ride. They have longer ones that might be different. From my understanding they have to pay a property owner per horse per day to go even that far. I really miss when Bitter Creek guest ranch was around. They had rides up to the old mining stuff and some of the guides would tell the history behind them.
@corycardwell4 ай бұрын
@@The.Wheelers the bitter creek group went behind our place all the time. Had they picked up their poop as agreed, we probably would have let them keep crossing our property. Unfortunately, the guy that ran it rarely kept his word. Nice trail. Thanks for the video of the new trail.
