I guess you have no time for film phtoography any more beside your work as full time photographer. Your videos are quite interesting and lovely to watch.

Belinda, this comment comes 3 years late, but you should not need to use a bit of sticky tape to stick down the exposed roll paper strip, because it has a bit of dry adhesive on it, you just lick it (like licking an envelope) and stick it down. It will prevent the end of the roll from coming unwound and ruining your roll.

Well, I am back since I really like the grain and detail of this film in 67. However, it handicaps me with max shutter speed of 1/400 and widest apertures of f/3.5, 3.8 and 4.5. I like to shoot that format at f/5.6, 8 and 11 so for me the sweet spot for iso is 200. I will try a roll at the hc110 recommend 12 minutes for iso 200. If the shadows are blocked up, will consider developing at 400... that is in the massive development chart ap. That should open the shadows but I will evaluate increasing or decreasing development time to ensure detail in the highlights. As for metering in changing light, a sekonic 308 lives in my L pants or vest hip pocket in the field. I take an initial reading but leave it on ( I use rechargeable batteries so no problem)and just before taking the shot, pull it out and it can be easily manipulated with the L hand, take the reading, put it in the pocket and shoot. Wearing it on a lanyard if you have clouds coming and going, you could just drop it and fire. It's smaller than a cell phone. I like the 308x because it allows setting aperture and giving shutter speed.

Beauty and Brains.... love the following comment at 6:13 .... "if the photos happen to be blurry, the lens is probably the last reason why they are so" This is so true.... Great video, very great insights.

Recently bought an XA and binging videos while waiting for it to be delivered. This was such an informative video without feeling like too much of an info-dump or making my head spin. Just like your friend talking to you about a camera they like. Also I loved so many of your shots. Good work, I'll definitely watch more videos from you after this!

Hi Belinda! This is the first video of yours I’ve watched and it was so great and informative! I wanted to ask if any of the shots you shared in this photo were taken without the flash? I’m interested in exploring night photography with my Olympus xa but don’t have a flash to go with it yet. Thank you!

I have to thank you because although I had done it a couple of time successfully when I first got it but for some reason I could not remember to grab the flat and the opposite point and twist them, I was trying to twist from the points and it wouldn't go for me.

These look great, love FP4. If it was me, I would interpret the data sheet with a pinch of salt too and guess EI 250 was a 16-17minutes. Photography is a bit of luck and a bit of artistry built on top of science.

I have a nice collection of analogue cameras and a good digital camera too. If I had to give away all of them, keeping just one camera it would definetly be the Olympus XA!

I’m new here and have not had enough time to properly binge your content. So forgive me if you cover this somewhere in your library or in this video. You spoke about waiting for people to walk into a scene or frame. I am curious if you’ve ever shared your process for composing and creating frames. I am always curious of what game the photographer is playing with themselves. That’s where the magic is. Would you create a video (or series) about that process? Seeing and composing?

You make a very good point about freezing with the camera up at your eye, pretending like the person who caught you wasn't what you were taking a picture of in the first place. I'll have to remember that one. Also it's cool seeing the name Belinda on a street photographer, because it's also the name of my sister who is one of the most amazing and kind and unselfish people ever! :)

I like to open the shadows on fp4 a bit. So I shoot it at 100 or 80 and develop for 125 but cut development time 10-15% that the phone app will compute for you. That opens the shadows but since highlights take longer to develop, cutting development time pulls down the highlights only giving you detail there to work with. Doing this, you have more detail in the shadows and can adjust themn them down in post with no image deterioration that you get trying to recover them. Although I am in sunny Florida, there are plenty of cloudy days with changing exposure. For those, my tlr remains at home and my f6, f100, f5 with super accurate matrix metering, auto focus and auto film advance get rolled out. Now I like to shoot my 645 for not just resolution but also tonal transitions. But the new topaz gigapixel ai has really allowed me larger prints from smaller negatives. I can easily print a 16x20 off a 35 mm. So for me, the camera/film selected for a shoot depends on the goal and conditions as well.

This reminds me of CBT. 😅 This is one of the reasons I prefer widlife photography. A minor reason, but a duck's not going to get in your face for pointing a lens at it. I'd love to photograph people; the problem is... all the people.

Awesome video and very interesting and nice results! I was particularly interested since I have been offered some rolls of expired Kodak Gold 100, actually from 2006 so, 17 years old at this moment, for a very fair price. So found your video in a very timely manner I guess. Honestly, I love your style as a youtuber. Have only watched this video yet but decided to subscribe to your channel since I see you have very interesting contents.

That was really interesting. I recently noticed the Ultramax 400 box has a Sunny 16 guide on one of the flaps, and this has 1/250 at f16 for sun! I guess films can take extra light.

You should never be 'caught', you should just ask, like a decent human being, and respect all cultures..PERIOD..If you are sneaking around, you just come off as creepy and someone who lacks solid character. The real bottom line is legal or not, you can get your azz whipped, camera taken, or worse. Now if someone is being aggressive, then I will match energy, ignore them, or protect myself...It gets real in NYC, so all that opinion does not matter..

That definitely took an explanation of Sunny 16 to the next level. Love the way you talked us through "reading" the scene and deciding what you want to get out of the shot (e.g retaining the grass texture in the shadows). I'm literally about to step out the door and spend a few hours in the picturesque town of Lymington, on England's south coast, with my little Canonet and a roll of Ektar. Will be putting the scene-reading into practice!
