movies can teach all sort of values, so which one deserves a 10 star while others not? personally, i pick the answer is the ones that teach you how to live. that's why my faorvite movies are howl's moving castle, suzume no tojimari, and even puss in boots 2. thanks to you, i add frieren to the list now even though i haven't watched it

I also love how the relationship between Stark and Fern also helps Frieren contextualize her relationship with Himmel. When Zein explains the meaning of the gift Stark picked out for Fern, Frieren remembers a similar ring Himmel gave her and secretly searches for it for days after it gets lost. This is the same Frieren that left a cursed demon king horn with Himmel and forgot about it. She was surprised that not only hadn't he thrown it away, but he kept it with his most prized possessions. Frieren knew the ring wasn't just a trinket that she picked on a whim.

You are so right! I'm so happy that so many small 'content creators' (if I can be so blithe as to use this horrible term) have caught on to how intelligent and sensitive this story is. It should strike us as odd that almost every character in a shounen is reserved (and indeed, practically every convention is undermined and inverted) but there are a number of reasons why, of course. The whole global culture essentially belongs to a 'silent generation', after not only surviving a Great War that predates written history, but with an enemy who's modus operandi is deception and cruelty. This is also essential to properly illustrate that *every* character has *ulterior motives*. And what are Frieren's friends' ulterior motives? They each conspire against her, out-fox her, and machinate schemes -- to what end? Love. Frieren, it is easy to forget, is not a Great Mage. This is presumably a title given to masters who's accomplishments resound through history. Frieren, though, has no such mark. She was a nameless girl in the forest until recently and, in fact, this is how she still views herself! She does have one title though. It is not a title given to her by humanity though. The Slayer. By their own admission, Frieren, before the hero's party was even formed, has slain more demons than any other person in history. (More than the far-older, war-mongering Serie!) Enter Heiter. As her companion, he of course witnesses her prowess and accomplishments first-hand. But, knowing her personally (as well as mortal can), he realizes that she should have been a legend already, on her own terms. He must already have asked himself, in the words of Kraft: "And before that?" Before her last human bond, himself, ends again, before Frieren can once again slip into the unknown, he tricks her into taking an apprentice. Setting aside the gift of family that he secures for both Fern and Frieren, this is also a monumental accomplishment for the legacy of Human Magic. Flamme, the Great Mage, who founded the whole tradition of human magic, by which humanity finally had means of resisting the demons; Flamme who's enchantments and formulas persist in foiling evil a millennium later; Flamme who's original methodology is both so elusive and sought after that any grimoire attributed to her is practically guaranteed to be fake. After 1000 years, there is now suddenly a *mere 2nd generation* human apprentice to Flamme! The old fox! Now, more can be said about Flamme herself, Eisen, and others, but to avoid premature conjecture, spoiling, and just writing too much, I'd like to end that there and leave it as an invitation to continue to think deeply about characters as they come. But I mention all this to point out the scope of how deeply many characters love Frieren, and reflect again on Frieren's only tears in the first chapter. This is not the first time she has experienced loss, nor a human's short lifespan. She buried her own master, after all. But, at the cusp of understanding how much this one man changed her life, no, herself, she is heart-broken. So many people have been brief flashes in her life, but, for the first time, she realizes that She completely filled Himmel's life from beginning to end. And as scales fall from her eyes, she can finally see: This ordinary, flawed man-- his courageous love was more brilliant than the Sun.

Great video man people to speak on this as much as they should and this way that Gege reintrocued his last story (jjk0) into the main story with Yuta is wonderful. When you read the prequel it gives you a weird feeling, because it seems to give a different message then the main story, but in the interview Gege said that he is creating a story where nobody is right or wrong its about perspective. Totaly makes sense.

My favorite song in the world is "REVIVER" by My First Story. I don't speak a word of Japanese and it took me months of listening to it before I looked up the lyrics. Even after reading (and loving) them, my answer for why it's my absolute favorite song has not changed. It makes me feel all the things. Every emotion it feels like it's trying to evoke hits me all at once. It's beautiful and picks me up at the end of a long day like nothing else does. Connecting to music from overseas is an amazing experience that a lot of people sadly limit themselves on. Glad to see a vid talking about how important this stuff can be. Yet another banger, my dude! Keep em' coming!

Sein's brother didn't sacrifice himself so Sein could stay in that village all his life. He sacrificed himself so Sein and Sein alone could decide when he wants to leave his village.

Sorry if I wasn't clear on that point. I think Seins brother didn't want to uproot his brothers life because of his own promotion. He wanted him to grow up in a village he knew.

@@AronNBR I wasn't disagreeing with you. I think you made your point well. I was just saying that, in my opinion, it's wasn't just about growing up in that village. That wouldn't explain his anger. I really think he wanted Sein to live on his own terms, in a place of his choosing, rather than have his entire life uprooted once again by events outside of his control. And when his brother saw that Sein thought his stay there was outside of his control... It was the exact opposite of what he wanted to achieve. And that's why he was so angry.

Beautiful video. Wonderful and thoughtful takes. I have to agree with @TrybzVibez's comment though. You need to let your thoughts breathe a bit. Especially when changing the subject. Other than that and maybe choosing a different music from the OST for some scenes, but that's more of a pet peeve than a critisism, everything else was extremely insightful and very well-spoken. Criminally undersubbed indeed. Can't wait to see more videos from you in the future :)

Frieren-Fern dynamic reminds me of Gilmore Girls. The older one is kinda childish, while the young one is pushed to adapt around it by being 'mature-like', despite being a normal teen deep inside.

i almost got no words, you said everything exactly like how my mind says everytime i watch frieren. just a little difference: i believe frieren's romantic love for himmel slowly grows even if she didn't realize. (manga spoiler alert) that marriage illusion makes me sure of that. but it doesn't really matter if people wanna believe their love is romantic or platonic, it's still love. anyway this video is so gooodd, thank you!

185 subs? Criminally low numbers. I don't know how long you've been making videos, but this one was really great. I think the cuts between the different character specific sections could have been a little less abrupt, but that would be my only suggestion if you're trying to improve. I recently graduated, and I share the mindset you're talking about. Or, I'm trying to, at least. Its scary to fail, but its how you grow and become better. Honestly after all this time, I think aureole isn’t real. Flamme knew Frieren is going to beat the DK and make good friends along the way, but she wouldn’t be aware of this. The second journey retracing the original path and let Frieren to finally understand humanity. This is the last gift flamme gave to Frieren. The one last lesson that will push frieren into the mage that spearhead the peaceful period that flamme envisioned.

I liked your review of Frieren. It's really understandable. I think this anime is teaching us to cherish every moment we have with our friends and loved ones. We never truly appreciate something until it's gone. Just like Frieren, I too regretted not knowing more about the people who mattered to me the most. They're gone now, all that's left are memories of the times we spent together. Frieren, though Himmel's passing, learns to cherish her time with people. Eisen even remarked how she's changed, that before, she never would have considered spending time with others. Frieren is showing us to live in the moment and cherish it.
