I wouldnt be surprised if her parents were behind this. like "youre never gonna get better if youre friends with with neurodivergent girls like her." you need to befriend neurotypicals. very common for parents to try to "cure" autism even though you cant or force their autistic child to be normal.

This kind of thing has happened to me like 4 times. It hurts. I haven’t tried to make any close friends for 20 years. With the exception of my wife, who is the only friend I’ll ever need.

Damn. Are you a man? Other male friends ghosted you?

It does hurt: I've had it as well, and it's bewildering.
@gwincondon6 ай бұрын
Despite being so hurt you genuinely wish her well, that's not easy. And yeah for sure, could well be that God is keeping you safe from further hurt, in which case it's a blessing in disguise. I admire your personal and spiritual maturity, you're a great example Melanie

🙃 I know that feel b. Feels bad man. If it ain't for one, it ain't for one its what I learned from it. I used to drive her out to see her bf, helped her when she was cheated on.... Idk guess im saying i was just trying to be a friend a friend would like to have and it wasn't reciprocated.

Darn I'm sorry you went through that. I've gone through similar 😐 They probably weren't our friends to begin with. She has her own issues to deal with.

Yes for sure even without the sensory issues, like you say Coachella (and festivals generally) are overhyped and overpriced etc. And maybe you end up only enjoying some of the bands you watch, after paying a big ticket price. And if you watch a headline act the crowd is so big and you're standing. So yeah I agree you're not really missing out as much as you think because there's a lot of hype but several disadvantages. I prefer looking out for sideshows where you can sit down and avoid all the hustle, and you can see well and it's better value for money. This year Coachella has Tyler the Creator, who I saw by myself in Sydney in 2022 and it was great. If he comes back I'd rather do that again at a venue where it's just him and a support act. I also saw Blur who are on the lineup. We don't have anything with the prestige of Coachella but we still get a lot of big acts, and they mostly tour during our summer.

I'm 30min from Coachella and Don't even wanna go 😅 The lineup is ridiculous. High High prices and yes some stores up the prices. I'm more interested in aftershock 😮

Great video Melanie! Love the Wallace and Gromit poster! I'm sorry about your dog, people can be so cruel, especially children. It's really cool that you named her Gromit though. Totally understand wanting the blinds on the windows, I wouldn't want anyone to be able to see into my room while I'm sleeping either lol.

You didn't do anything wrong Melanie. Many places in the world still use that term or something similar and it's only a thing here in the US as of now. I personally don't like the term as the history associated with it is beyond messed up.
@gwincondon8 ай бұрын
In Australia we also rely on the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) but also use the ICD-11 (International Classification of Diseases), which is commonly used in Europe. As you say the DSM-5 stopped using the term Aspergers in favor of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which was in 2013. But this only happened with the ICDs when ICD-11 was released in early 2022! So yeah it's cool for you to address this and do it so kindly, but like others here I'm on your side. Transitions like this in society are bound to take some time and you, like many others were caught up in that. I got diagnosed (very late at age 56) in August 2022 so by then it was already called ASD. From what I've read even the term 'high-functioning' is going out of favor, because it seems to suggest that your type of autism doesn't really affect you that much. So now we classify autism according to three levels of needs. I look forward to the time when most people understand that someone formerly labelled as having Aspergers is now labelled as having Level 1 Autism

Thank you. I need to remind myself of this more often. I try to tell my kid's teachers this too because my daughter struggles. I tell them that her mental heath matters more than her grades.
@cornhorn2808 ай бұрын
Don't worry about saying Asperger's most people in the world don't even know it's not used anymore and I use it sometimes because people know what you mean when you say it.

You definitely haven't done anything wrong. Everyone is learning and it can be hard when we're trying to understand autism both for ourselves and for others.

It's ok, if someone was giving you a hard time, don't worry about them. Yes the word can be controversial, but we still know it was a valid word/diagnoses not that many years ago, so don't worry about it. Dan from the Aspie world has that in his channel name. It's OK. You didn't mean any harm. People are offended by everything these days JEEZ.

As a non autistic person I forgive you for misleading us.
@sara.allegra8 ай бұрын
I don't think it's wrong to use that word. Many of us who were diagnosed as having Aspergers syndrome prefer the word over autism. People can't tell us how to identify.
