It’s nice to finally find a fellow Southern Ohioan. I love gardening both flowers and vegetables. I am currently in the home stretch of building a beautiful greenhouse using old windows. I’ve been looking for a channel with someone who has the same climate so their tips and tricks are more meaningful to my area. I love all your ideas. I struggle to plant bulbs and tubers though because I always want the instant satisfaction of seeing flowers when I plant something😂🤷♀️The struggle is real😂My husband asked me how much I thought I spent on flowers this year. I said do you really want the answer to that? He said “Probably not” and walked away lol.😂 If I go to Lowe’s for anything at all then I ALWAYS need a plant too🤷♀️I’m about 10 trips in with it being “The last plants I’m buying this year”😊
@Rural-Rooted24Күн бұрын
Haha!! 🤣 YES! Exactly the same here!! I’m the person who buys plants on vacation for souvenirs and makes frequent stops after work to Lowe’s because you never know what could be on the clearance rack today. 🤣 The greenhouse sounds amazing! I have a small greenhouse made out of cattle panels and plastic. I’ve been trying to convince my husband that I need a bigger greenhouse because I always run out of room. He says if I had a bigger one, I still wouldn’t have room, I’d just buy more plants. 🤷🏼♀️🤣 And he’s probably right. Lol

You did good!! Don't you just love having beautiful things and not having to pay top dollar for them? I certainly do, and have bought varieties of plants myself from clearance (50-75% off), and they're still growing strong, with many having been divided for even more plants. It's the best way to fill your flower beds with amazing plants, and not breaking the bank. Plus if and when you see something in particular that you really really want, you don't feel guilty paying full price for it. Lovely border you have created, and the colors are stunning!
@Rural-Rooted248 күн бұрын
Thank you!! Yes, I totally agree! Once I discovered the clearance rack shopping, I rarely pay full price for perennials. I just check often, hoping the plants that I have on my wish list will be there. Haha

I found great seedlings for $3 each at the Nature Foundation of my local county. They have a plant sale twice a year and it is just awesome. I have picked up phlox plants, strawberry starts and so many more. There are also garden clubs that have sales. And if you join local Facebook gardening clubs people always will post free plant divosions or in some cases trade seeds or plants.

Awesome garden! You have created an amazing garden space for all to enjoy. Hope you have a bountiful harvest. Question? Do the string lights help keep the deer out? I know the cattle panel is a little short for that. Oh, try First Saturday Lime for bugs. I use it everywhere. Chicken run, coop, garden....it really has helped with bugs of all types and not toxic. Happy gardening! 🌷❤️⚘️
@Rural-Rooted2411 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to try that. As for the deer, I’m not sure if the string lights make a difference, but so far (knock on wood 😬) we haven’t had many deer in the garden. Maybe the location, it’s by our barn, or the fact that I have other flower beds that look more tasty than my vegetables, they typically don’t bother my garden so much.

@Anonymously4051 I apologize that you felt that I was too repetitive. I am completely new to making KZbin videos. Growing flowers and plants is what I’m good at, public speaking is definitely not one of my strong points. 😬 But I hope with time and practice that I will only get better. Haha Talking into a camera for the world to see, is so much more awkward than I ever imagined that it would be. And this was only my 3rd video. So if you have any tips for me on how you were able to get comfortable in front of the camera and with making such great KZbin videos, I’d love to hear them. 🩷 Thank you and I hope you have a blessed day!! Hi Jami...just found your channel! I love your channel! I garden in 7b and have a lot of hydrangeas too and shop for plants very much the same way as you. I did just direct seed some Zinnia seeds and have never done that. Wish me luck!!! I have a lot of dahlias too. I left mine in the ground for the past 3 years and so far they keep coming back.😊 Your gardens are beautiful!!!! Thank you for sharing with us all! ❤

Awe thank you so much! You are so sweet! 🩷 I have direct sown zinnias for several years in my vegetable garden for the pollinators and they have been so so easy to grow that way as well. I’m sure they will do great in your garden and be beautiful. 😊

Beautiful flowerbed, Its the bees knees. We made our four flowerbeds bigger in 2020 and divided the perennial plants in the old flowerbeds to expand the flower beds. We are lucky that we have a 8ft x 6ft glasshouse that we bought on a sale fifteen years ago and we grow annuals and perennials from seed and give the plants to family and friends.

Is that an Orienpet Giant Lily? (at the beginning)
@Rural-Rooted2416 күн бұрын
It is supposed to be a Purple Dream Lily, as described on the tag when I purchased them. But one issue I found with purchasing bulbs in the bags, is that the plant doesn’t always match the tag. The Purple Dream Lily is a deep purple and mine are light pink/purple, so I’m honestly not sure the exact variety, but I think they are still beautiful either way. 😄

Hi Faye, I’m located in southern Ohio. I actually discovered this by sheer accident one year. I did nothing with them one fall, and discovered the following spring 80% of them came back. 😄 So now I just always leave them in the ground every fall. So much less work that way too. 😄
