This may be a stupid question but is the switch on the side of the alarm unit an on off switch? And if so is up on and down off? I just opened mine up yesterday and couldn’t figure this out. Also, if it is battery powered, do I need to put batteries in it or replace them ever and if so how?

Thank you for reaching out! No question is a stupid question, so we’re glad you asked for clarification. Yes, the switch on the side of the alarm unit is indeed an on/off switch. The up position turns the unit on, and the down position turns it off. It will need batteries. It should have come with an instruction sheet, but please reach out if you need a new copy! Can't a thief notice that the cover of the bike says "Dowco" and know where to reach to neutralize the alarm? Sorry if this is a dumb question, just a paranoid new-rider here.

Valid question for sure! Traditionally we have not had issues with thieves coming to watch our videos beforehand when looking to rob a bike. However, totally valid question!

any chance you remember what size cover you were putting on that honda super cub? I have a trail 125 and from the measurements i suspect i need a large but the super cub is mostly the same size.

Hey! For stock we would recommend our Large Scooter Cover. If there are any modifications above the stock option then that will alter the bikes measurements and may change what cover you would need.

I bought three of these for my hailprotector covers. Those covers are about $600 a piece and very tempting for people to steal, especially down here in Texas where our hail seasons are awful. I bought three of these for each of the covers and I love them. I had to get creative on how to be able to attach the alarm to the chassis and I replaced the simple cloth cord with a steel cable instead so as not to allow people the opportunity to simply cut the braided cord that comes with the . My only complaint about them is that they don’t have a remote to silence the alarm. it wouldn’t be that difficult to add a remote to these units. If I can do it with simple battery operated LED Christmas lights, I should be able to do it with something like this. It’s a simple as having a component inside that stops the flow of electricity from the battery to the alarm. Other than that, these gave me a much greater sense of security and they’re quite loud.

@@dowco-powersports another thing to pass along to them is the idea of adding a strap underneath the cover itself that wraps around the upper frame. You would have to put that strap on first and then lower the cover around the rest of the motorcycle to do the lower straps. That way if they undo the lower straps first and pull up on the cover, they can’t just grab it and run. Just an extra deterrent..

They do a good job of keeping water out, but since they are not fully sealed, they can let a little water in if there is a high volume of rain.

So… a thief could easily do the same thing… set off the alarm and let the pin back in…. So…. How do we ensure this doesn’t happen ???

Thanks for the comment. Our alarm is only meant to be a deterrent, similar to a car alarm. Not a 100% keep your bike safe device.

My only concern with this is because once the tether is removed the cover can be taken off and someone could smash it on the ground and that alarm will be easily neutralized…. So how do we ensure this doesn’t happen ??

That is very true and a good thought! Our alarms are only meant to deter thieves, not 100% stop them. As you know, a determined thief will do whatever they need to do to steal what they are after. We do our best to help deter that.

Try to Velcro strap the unit to the wheel or frame. I did it with the three I bought and it takes a minute to undo it. I also added several extra straps so taking it isn’t easy and very time consuming.

Hope no one needs to use the warranty for this company!!!! IT SUCKS!!!!Dowco was the WORST to deal with to get one replaced. It wasn't this cover exactly, but was a $$$ cover. Their policy is if you lose the product tag on the inside of the cover, you have to pay to ship your entire cover back, instead of just a 12 inch strip, with tag. NO other company sticks it like this to customers who have a receipt and store order proof of purchase! Nope, they only care about that tag on the inside that any sane person removes! Then, you get to pay another $10 to get new one shipped! When I protested having to ship the whole thing back, Dowco was zero help"Sorry, that's our policy". (Which isn't stated anywhere until you fill return form out) Then, they shipped me someone else's cover that was 3 sizes too small and they wanted ME to pay for shipping to return THAT one! I'd them them a Buck Fifty Award, not NIfty!
