For those who don't know, this is a SOIA approach, the reason the original plane is first is because the other plane has to have visual on the original plane and runway or they will be told to go around. This is until they are on course for the runway . Bad ass flying for both pilots
@SpicyFaceActual3 жыл бұрын
This is actually two visual approaches. 👍 SOIA isnt used at SFO anymore.

PPL its a SOIA approach, the pilots aren't racing
@SpicyFaceActual3 жыл бұрын
Two visual approaches. Not SOIA. And you nailed it, they are definitely not racing. They’re assigned speeds by ATC. The goal is to get them to land at the same time, side by side. 👍

9pm?? I'm down in southern California and even in June there's not that much light out at 9 in the evening. Maybe that FA meant 8pm??

I would trust all those pilots with my life, you know those runways are only 750ft apart, one mistake and it's game over!....but they are flawless...big respect! love it, great video

Theres a lot of procedures for these types of landing. Also pilots have to be certified for it as well
@SpicyFaceActual3 жыл бұрын
Must be some pretty crisp vectoring by air traffic control as well.. 😂 pilots are cool and all. With their tans, and sunglasses. But there’s some pale dude sitting in a dark windowless room telling them where to go and assigning speeds to make these sidebys work. 👍
@chaoszombie99952 жыл бұрын
they are under strict monitoring, if an aircraft deviates off course even by a couple of inches, the plane its veering towards is told to break off the approach and go around.. its still insane though

It's not exactly parallel, as you can see the plane getting closer. One of the approaching aircraft will be slightly offset, like a V shape extending out the runways. And the plane behind (usually the heavier one) will have to keep the plan in visual contact. It's so delicate and complex, and so awesome. Great upload
@SpicyFaceActual3 жыл бұрын
They can be side by side. No offset needed for aircraft in the same weight class. If there’s a heavy involved then we’ll offset. The goal is to have them touch down at the same time so the tower can launch departures off the crossing runways in between arrivals.

love it! our country have 1 runway in majority of its airport so I was surprised to see this. Also, love the landing..it's smooth. in our country..you'll pray to God and if you can kneel, go kneel and ask for the plane to stop and hold the breaks...runways here are not as huge there.
@Altenholz6 жыл бұрын
Very impressive! Wouldn't be allowed here in Europe this Way :-(
This specific landing is called a soia landing and it's just used probably to speed up landing rates and also because well it looks cool as shit.
@SpicyFaceActual3 жыл бұрын
@@joshuam20 It does look cool as shit. Especially in SFO where the runways are only 750ft apart. This particular video is showing two visual approaches though. We don’t use SOIA or PRMs anymore. We pair aircraft up on final to land at the same time, because the tower is launching departures off the crossing runways in between arrival pairs. Its called pumping Js. 😂

Nice shot dude. Anybody know why wake turbulence is an issue on TO but not on close side by side landing?
@liesdamnlies33725 жыл бұрын
Johnny Mitch Because wake turbulence falls behind the aircraft, not shoot out the sides... kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnO9hn-FpMpsarc

Too bad you couldn’t see the two planes ✈️ actually touch down together. Having lived in the Bay Area (Walnut Creek) for over 27 years, I have watched a few parallel landings and they are awesome. Never seen them at night though. Love driving over the San Matteo Bridge and see the planes coming in real low overhead. Nice 👍 video - thanks for sharing.
