Our yard switch locos had the 12 cylinders. Very efficient & powerful.

Have 4 EMD 16-645's on aircraft carriers. Spent many years with them
@ThePaulv122 күн бұрын
They also make a V6 in both 567 & 645s typically ~750hp. I wonder why they omitted that fact?

Excellent video, could you upload it with subtitles in Spanish... I am learning from those EMD engines.... Do you have any courses or manuals that you could provide me with?

Go cc, translate, choose spanish. Que Dios te bendige.

@antaresjovith4385.

Worked on SeDco offshore oil rigs. All had EMDs. We serviced the engines dilligintly exactly as this video showed. Lot of work but worth the effort. Engines lasted.

Sounds like a standard Navy diesel inspection. Done them on aircraft carriers. Older ones had 16-567s Nimitz Class has turbo charged 16-645

Man, this guy's a character and what a great delivery on the history. Re-title this video to something like "Union Pacific Pipefitter Explains the History of the Toilet" and you'd surely get a lot more views.

You have never been diesel service dirty until you have cleaned an EMD airbox. Fingertips to shoulders, there is no getting away from it!

Where can water be leaking from , cracked head ?
@GR-xs4eh2 жыл бұрын
coolant can leak from a crack in the head or the liner. Some will not show up until the engine has been running under load for 30 minutes or so. I don't see any particulars on this problem, but the lower water jumper, water manifold, aftercoolers, and water discharge elbow all carry water. Where is the water showing up? On the piston, in the air box, in the oil, in the fuel? Aftercooler fins? Turbo screen? In the Vee? Give me some specifics.

@@GR-xs4eh im not the original guy but i have the same question. water is showing up in the oil. its not in the air box.i pulled the side covers last week and didnt see any drips or rust marks. i think it only does it when its running. its a 12645 blower motor in a tugboat.

It's been over 28 years since I worked on one but I seem to remember quite a few leaks from the gasket between the head and liner of the power assembly. Sometimes the water pipe from the water-manifold to the liner would crack and leak. We used to put a hydro-squeeze on the engine with dye in the water, grab a flashlight, bar her over and look carefully.

@@barryj388 I found the leak. It’s a cracked block. U dee the valve covers between the 5 and 6 piston you can see where they welded it before and now it’s leaking again😭😭 thanks for y’all’s help

Would take a dedicated technician to make a thorough inspection on all 16 cylinders. This inspection and subsequent follow-up is crucial to the efficient performance of the diesel engine. When I was growing up I remember the distinctive (and loud) sound of the two stroke Detroit Diesels running in trucks, those days are gone now as DDs are four strokes units.

opened up the round air box covers and found small granular particulate. thought is was dirt that past the filters but behind the filter was clean. what was it??

Is it a blower engine?
@---sx9qx3 жыл бұрын
Carbon probably.
@trainfixer19813 жыл бұрын
On blower engines it's not uncommon to get aluminum particles from the rootes blowers, particularly on worn ones.
