I am roughly five years late but whatever. I was searching for Kiki Malinki videos and stumbled upon this and I am completely blown. This song is so full of love and warmth that I have no words for it. I dont really know Daniel Johnston or his legacy, so I guess its time to make myself familiar with him. His music goes straight to the heart. The truth. Adults hate it, but it's the music that we all make in our lives. Singing with the water, just humming about stuff happening in your life, stringing it randomly together. It's real music, real art. The most beautiful moment I've had with his music was listening to "Hi How Are You" with my kids. My 2 and 5 year old LOVED it, dancing around. Thought it was so fun, so interesting and exciting. They haven't been ruined yet by society and formal music training. I have to do everything I can to protect them. My daughter was so inspired we recorded a collection of 8 little songs about her day with my phone. Just her banging a xylophone, me a tambourine, and her sister babbling along in the background while she sang her heart out about her favorite toy, the moon and sun, why you should eat healthy food, playing on the hill, and more. I will cherish it forever, and she was inspired deeply by his music I can tell. Frees the soul to realize music can be so simple. Gone too soon, thank you for your work with it!

You guys don't know how much this affects me when I listen to it. I knew Danny as a teenager in West Virginia. We hung out in his parents basement and he would play his songs for me and I would follow along on my guitar. He was one of the best friends I ever had.

I loved this so much. This song is one of my favorites; i find the lyrics very touching, and the interpretation that you guys made adds some bitterness, some nostalgic lamentation, as if someone is singing this to themselves, while taking a shower, almost as if the singing is a plea for the promise of a quieter, smooth and loving life that the song's lyrics entails. Really beautiful. I'll be listening to this version for a very long time. Thank you guys for this, it made the hard times a little more bearable. Right now i'm lying on my bed, its a warm night here in Brasil, although the winter has started, and while i listen, i feel embraced, and with hope that someday the sun will shine brightly on my soul too, and for this i have to thank you again.
