Great counrer/set up move. I've pulled it off once into an ankle lock. But you can do countless holds from here. Even the cradle! (Very embarrassing to be on the receiving end of) Pankration hurts and that's how you know you're doing it right! (You can also take their back when they turn by grabbing their collar/neck, opening up more holds like a choke or VERY painful face lock.

Very dangerous in real life
@lt60773 жыл бұрын
I think the opponent would be able to kick/swim out. I wonder if it was ment to be finished another way. Not an expert just wrestled a few years in high school. Turning your back and kicking/pulling you're leg free can get you out of a single leg. You are basically setting up this escape for the guy who kicked you.
@nunyabidness34292 жыл бұрын
It's supposed to be a counter and THEN a set up. You want to react quickly to what the opponent does when you catch their kick. Some guys will shoot in and try to punch. Some will try to spin out. And others will just focus on not losing their balance. You have to feel for this and react accordingly. Ideally if they turn you grab their neck and have the rear naked position. Then go for a facelock or choke. The way he did is very hard to pull off on resisting opponents because he's grabbing the foot instead of the ankle. But it's not impossible to get the wheelbarrow position he got here. Just gotta do a lot of pulling when they least expect it. (Judo trick: push then immediately pull) I think the problem with older martial arts are that people might misinterpret certain things to be "fundamental" because it was on a painting or something. When in actuality, the moves aren't that significant but rather, smaller techniques to employ in your moveset to make a dangerously rounded moveset. I'd say Pankrations is closer to "shoot wrestling" than it is Olympic wrestling. The use of holds tend to be more effective and less forgiving in the Father of modern Wrestling. But Pankration also teaches ground and pound WONDERFULLY.
