I have completed my PhD in mechanical engineering. Does research work during a PhD qualify as "experience?"
@PassthePEExamКүн бұрын
@mollahasan8457 Thank you for your question! Research work done during a PhD program can often qualify as experience toward the PE Exam, depending on the nature of the research and how it relates to engineering practice. Generally, it needs to involve the application of engineering principles and be supervised by a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or someone with equivalent credentials. We recommend reviewing your state’s board requirements or reaching out to them directly to clarify how your PhD research might count toward the experience requirement. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

it looks the PE exam policy same with singapore, i working in singapore now, but i am a Chinese, for last 11 years i worked in building field as a civil engineer, i got 2 First class construction engineer licenses in China (building area and infrastructure area), i am perfer to work in international peoject in next 10 years, unfortunately, My university is not on the list, I need to continue my education first, I have sufficient engineering knowledge and experience,if i prepaer for the PE exam i have to spend more than others,do you think it is worth it?
@PassthePEExamКүн бұрын
@xiaodiqiao934 Thank you for sharing your story and your thoughtful question! It sounds like you have an impressive background with your experience and licenses in China. Transitioning to international projects and preparing for the PE exam is certainly a big commitment, especially if your university isn’t on the approved list and you need to pursue further education. Whether it’s “worth it” depends on your career goals and where you see yourself in the next 10 years. If working on international projects is a priority, earning the PE license could open doors to new opportunities and increase your professional credibility. It’s also a globally recognized credential, which may help you stand out in a competitive job market. While the preparation might require more time and effort, your extensive engineering experience could be a great foundation for the exam. If you’re still unsure, it might be helpful to connect with others who’ve pursued the PE exam under similar circumstances or consult with a licensing board to better understand the requirements and benefits in your specific case. We wish you the best in your career journey!

Hello sir, I have a master degree here in Morocco, in the meantime I’m working from home with a company based in USA as a structural engineer I for a 1.5 year now, I have some ambitions to be a PE in the future, but first it seems I should get my EIT certification, but I don’t even know if that possible since I’m not from USA
@PassthePEExamКүн бұрын
@anssarhicham1772 Thank you for watching our video and sharing your journey-congratulations on your experience so far as a structural engineer! You’re correct that earning your EIT (Engineer in Training) certification is often a key step toward becoming a PE (Professional Engineer) in the United States. The good news is that it may be possible for you to take the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam, which grants you the EIT certification, even as an international engineer. The requirements can vary by state, but most states allow candidates with a degree from an accredited university (or equivalent international credentials) to apply. We recommend checking with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) about credential evaluations and the application process. They can guide you on how your Moroccan degree fits into the U.S. licensure system. Your ambition to pursue the PE is inspiring, and taking these steps will definitely help you move closer to your goal! If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out, and we’ll do our best to help. Best of luck!

I am graduated from Mechanical Engineering but for some reasons I worked in civil for 8 years… now i wanna pass the fe and pe test but I don’t really know which route I have to go… civil or mechanical?
@PassthePEExam13 күн бұрын
@ryanahmadi4319 Thanks for sharing your journey! It’s great to hear about your diverse experience in both mechanical and civil engineering. Choosing between the FE and PE in civil or mechanical depends on where you see your career heading. If you’re planning to continue working in civil engineering, pursuing the Civil FE and PE might make the most sense since it aligns with your work experience. However, if you want to transition back to mechanical engineering, focusing on the Mechanical FE and PE could open doors in that field. It might also be helpful to think about which discipline excites you the most and where you want to grow long-term. You’ve already got valuable experience-now it’s just about aligning your certifications with your goals. Best of luck, and let us know if you have more questions!

Hey, I'm an EE in California. I've been a PCA/PCB designer for over 8 years and also have considerable experience in programming. Literally no one in my line of work talks about the PE License, let alone exam. My workplace doesn't sell products for the general public. Will my work be considered qualified experience even when none of the people I've worked with and under have a PE license?
@PassthePEExam13 күн бұрын
@ziqi92, thanks for watching! While PE licensure is less common in PCB design, it doesn't disqualify your experience. NCEES requires engineering work, supervision (which can be by someone with equivalent qualifications), and increasing responsibility. California may have specific rules, so contact their Board for guidance. Document your projects meticulously, highlighting complexity. Networking with PEs in any field can also help. Don't be discouraged! With strong documentation, you may still qualify. Good luck!

Is surveying and survey drafting valid as engineering experience? Researching/using county records and survey data to draft Plats and Exhibits.
@PassthePEExam25 күн бұрын
@colbeybruney1917 Thank you for watching and for your question! Surveying and survey drafting can be considered valid engineering experience, especially if the work involves technical skills, analysis, and the application of engineering principles. Tasks like researching county records, analyzing survey data, and drafting plats and exhibits contribute to the understanding and practice of spatial data management, which is an important aspect of civil engineering. However, specific licensure boards may have their own guidelines on what counts as qualifying experience, so it’s always a good idea to check with your state or regional board to confirm how they evaluate surveying and drafting experience for engineering licensure. Hope this helps, and good luck on your journey!

Hi there, am an electrical engineer with experience in MEP from UAE and degree from India. How do I proceed to get a EIT/PE certification in Texas. Please reply
@PassthePEExamАй бұрын
@mohammedashwaq6529 Hi there! Since you have experience in MEP and an engineering degree from India, you’re off to a solid start. Here’s a general roadmap to get your EIT and PE certification in Texas: 1. Get your degree evaluated: Texas requires that foreign degrees meet certain standards, so your first step is to have your degree evaluated by a board-approved agency. This confirms that it meets U.S. engineering education requirements. 2. Apply for the EIT: Once your degree is approved, you’ll need to apply to take the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam to earn your EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification. Passing this is essential for moving toward the PE. 3. Work Experience: Texas requires at least four years of engineering experience under a licensed PE. If your experience from the UAE aligns with U.S. standards, it may count toward this requirement, but be prepared to document your work thoroughly. 4. Take the PE Exam: After meeting the work experience requirements, you can apply to take the PE (Principles and Practice of Engineering) exam in your discipline. Each step has specific guidelines, so it’s a good idea to check with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers for the latest info and any additional steps they may require. Best of luck as you work toward your PE certification in Texas!

Hi Anthony, Thank you for the video and for bringing in Oscar to share his path towards becoming a licensed engineer in the US. I’m in a similar process, education was approved and was able to pass the NYS FE exam. My question is, do the two years working under licensed engineers in the US but before passing the FE exam count towards the experience required to take the PE exam. Also, do the six years working abroad count for anything? I appreciate this is solely at the board’s discretion (which I’m anxiously awaiting for their reply), but wondered if you have any thoughts on how that may pan out. Thanks again, Guy.
@PassthePEExamАй бұрын
@guysheba912 Thanks for watching the video, and congrats on passing the NYS FE exam! That’s a big step, and it sounds like you’re well on your way. To answer your question, you’re right that the final call is up to the board, but I can share some general insights that might help. Usually, the experience under a licensed engineer in the U.S. is highly valued, but whether it counts toward your PE eligibility may depend on when you completed that experience. Some boards prefer experience after passing the FE, but others may count the time before that as long as it was under a licensed professional. As for your six years abroad, it can sometimes count, especially if you can show it was hands-on and closely related to your engineering discipline. The board might still prioritize U.S.-based experience, but it’s definitely worth presenting it, as they often look at the full scope of your background. Hope this helps, and best of luck as you await their response!

Very informative video thanks a lot for this video but I am slightly confused in the last words of yours, why we should go for PE certificate program if I am interested in pmp certificate program. PLEASE tell us this. Thankyou sir Anurag jain India
@PassthePEExamАй бұрын
@anuragjain3719 Thanks for your comment and for watching our video! I understand your confusion about the PE and PMP certifications. In the video, I mentioned the PE exam because it's another popular option for engineers looking to advance their careers. While the PMP is focused on project management, the PE license demonstrates your competence as a professional engineer in a specific discipline. Here's why someone might choose the PE path even if they're interested in project management: - Industry Requirements: In some industries and roles, a PE license is a requirement or a strong advantage, even for project managers. - Technical Expertise: The PE license validates your deep technical knowledge and skills, which can be valuable in leading technical projects. - Career Flexibility: Having both the PE and PMP certifications can broaden your career options and make you a more competitive candidate for senior roles. Ultimately, the best path for you depends on your specific career goals and the requirements of your industry. If you're primarily interested in project management, the PMP is likely the better choice. However, if you want to establish your technical expertise and potentially open doors to certain roles or industries, PE is worth considering. I hope this clarifies things!

@rqpas Thanks for watching and for your great question! The PE Exam generally follows the same format as the FE Exam, with questions aligned to the Exam Specifications. You can expect the questions to be grouped by topic areas, similar to the FE. However, it's important to note that the specific order of the topic areas within each section may vary. The best way to prepare is to be familiar with the exam specs and practice questions across all topic areas. Remember, the key is to stay focused and confident on exam day. Don't let any unexpected question order throw you off your game. Best of luck on your PE Exam!

I first got my PMP certification a few years ago when working for a power utility as an engineer who mostly managed other people's work. I since moved to a design firm where the PE is more meaningful since we do more technical work. I took the FE earlier this year and plan to take the PE in Industrial Engineering this October. Both the PE and PMP are important, but the type of work you do (and that your company is involved in) can play a major factor in which you should pursue first.

I recently passed the PE chemical exam. As a chemical engineer, I have had site manufacturing engineering roles as well as engineering design firm roles. I’m worried my site engineering roles will not count as qualifying experience for my license application. You mentioned that in industries where you do not offer engineering services to the public, non licensed supervisors will work. But what would one put for the project section of the experience write up?
@PassthePEExam3 ай бұрын
@jonathanpineda2774 Congratulations on passing the PE chemical exam! That's a great accomplishment! Regarding your concern about qualifying experience, it's understandable to be unsure, especially given the varied nature of engineering roles. While I did mention that in industries where engineering services are not offered to the public, non-licensed supervisors might be present, that doesn't automatically disqualify your site engineering experience. The key factor is whether your role involved responsible charge of engineering work, requiring the application of engineering principles and judgment. For the project section of your experience write-up, focus on highlighting specific projects where you exercised independent judgment and made engineering decisions. Even if the overall industry doesn't offer direct services to the public, you can still describe your individual contributions and the engineering challenges you addressed. It's always recommended to consult with your state licensing board if you have specific questions about the acceptability of your experience. They can provide the most accurate guidance tailored to your situation. Remember, the goal is to demonstrate your competence and responsible charge of engineering work, regardless of the specific industry setting.

I’m currently in the process. I’m from Mexico and living in North Carolina. I sent all the documentation three days ago, and I hope my school is recognized so that I won’t have to take extra courses. They asked for a notarized copy of my diploma here in the USA. Do you know if they consider work experience from my country? I worked as a civil engineer for four years before moving to the USA.

@user-bv2nv6xx9g Hey there! Thanks for sharing your experience. It's great to hear you're actively pursuing your NCEES approval. The waiting period can definitely be nerve-wracking, but hang in there! Regarding your questions: - School Recognition: While I can't say for sure if your specific school will be recognized, the NCEES does have a comprehensive list of accredited programs. You can check their website for that. If your school isn't listed, don't worry too much. You might need to take some additional courses, but it's definitely doable. - Notarized Diploma: It's standard procedure for them to ask for a notarized copy, especially for documents from foreign institutions. It helps verify the authenticity of your diploma. - Work Experience: The NCEES does take work experience into account, even if it's from your home country. However, they typically focus more on your educational background and how it aligns with U.S. engineering standards. That being said, having four years of experience as a civil engineer is definitely a plus and could potentially strengthen your application. Remember, the evaluation process takes time, so try to be patient. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions about your application, don't hesitate to reach out to the NCEES directly. They're usually very helpful in providing guidance. Keep us updated on your progress! We're rooting for you!

Is it necessary to be a resident in the US to be eligible for the PE license?
@huseyinsanal3 ай бұрын
@@kasturchakraborty no it is not necessary
@PassthePEExam3 ай бұрын
@kasturchakraborty Great question! The short answer is no, it's not necessary to be a U.S. resident to be eligible for the PE license. As we discussed in the video, the NCEES credentials evaluations are designed to assess your education and experience, regardless of where you live. However, it's important to check the specific requirements of the state where you intend to practice. Some states may have additional requirements or restrictions for foreign-educated engineers. Feel free to leave another comment if you have any more questions, and don't forget to check out the resources mentioned in the video description!

@PassthePEExam3 ай бұрын
Hi @user-ff1jr2ud3v, thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, the PE exam is typically administered at designated testing centers. As of now, remote or online options for taking the PE exam from Ethiopia may not be available. It's best to contact the NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying) directly to inquire about international testing locations or any potential changes in exam administration. They can provide the most up-to-date information and guidance based on your specific situation. Best of luck with your PE exam preparation!

Can you provide the books link to study for exam?
@PassthePEExam3 ай бұрын
@YeYintS Thank you for watching the video. Unfortunately, we didn't go into specific book recommendations in that particular video. However, we'd be happy to point you in the right direction. Here are a couple of widely respected books that are frequently recommended for PE Exam preparation: - Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination (PE Exam) Review Manual by Michael R. Lindeburg - Practice Problems for the Civil Engineering PE Exam by Michael R. Lindeburg These books offer comprehensive coverage of the exam topics and practice problems to help you gauge your understanding. Additionally, the NCEES website (the organization that administers the PE Exam) has a list of recommended references for each discipline. Be sure to check those out as well for the most up-to-date information. We hope this helps! Good luck with your exam preparation!

is it a mandatory break? I'd rather see all the questions first and then answer them in whatever order I want
@PassthePEExam3 ай бұрын
@anaaaaaaaaaaaa2093 Great point! It would definitely be interesting to see all the questions laid out first before diving in.
