9:51: Thanks to your tips, I got the boot installed. Wasn't as hard as I thought. Just needed to lower the boot as far as possible at the base of the piston and press the boot down into the base of the bore evenly all around. Then carefully twist & turn the piston while pressing applying even pressure on the boot so it stays seated in the bore. I used clear, pure silicone paste to lube the boot and the part of the bore where the boot lip goes, and brake fluid on the piston once the boot is in place and ready to be screwed in. Also coated the screw part inside the bore with some brake fluid.

You removed the rust before paint the caliper? Other way in a few months will all be rusty again
@Coory2Ай бұрын
The bulk of it I did yeah. Took a very long time
@jeremylister89Ай бұрын
Many replacement pistons (such as from autodoc) come without the internals, you have to transfer internals from old piston to new piston.

Getting the e brake cable back on is proving to be a b*tch...is there a trick to it? Came off super easy...by accident, of course..
@Coory25 ай бұрын
Been awhile so I’m trying to remember. Have you already bolted the bracket in? If not maybe remove it so there’s more slack, think that’s what I had to do

@Coory2 That makes sense. Will do that. The good thing about all the learning curves is the other one should be much easier to do. Thanks for your reply Sir.

I was under the impression that brake fluid would eat away on rubber - should you have used something else to lubricate them?
@TheKnyghtblade3 ай бұрын
late to this party but that is what the red grease he had is for, it's red rubber grease designed for caliper rebuilds. for the slide pins high temp caliper lube is what you should be using.
@jimmyzero94026 ай бұрын
anychance of any photos on the out of focus section. I can't put the rubber seal with the piston.
@Coory26 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I do not, sorry. It’s a finicky thing to do, first one I did took a very long time
@calipercoatingrehab7 ай бұрын
Nice job! I'd recommend a piece of wood to prevent the piston from shooting out....sometimes they can take off like a rocket. Also, clean first & paint last - brake & carb cleaner eats fresh paint quickly. We also use red rubber grease instead of brake fluid for seal & piston lube, that way when it gets on gloves the brake fluid wont attack the finished surface and it's hydraulic system friendly.
@Coory26 ай бұрын
Appreciate the tips! Was actually planning to include painting in this but I learned the hard way that carb cleaner and freshly painted parts don’t mix well at all so decided not to. Can see on that white towel where it came off, had to add a couple coats once I was done assembling the caliper 😆

Handbrake hardly works on my civic,had new calipers and cables,any idea why still not working?
@Coory29 ай бұрын
Hey, if both sides are weak the only thing I can think of is the adjustment bracket thing just behind the handbrake inside the car where the cables connect to it. Have you tried messing with that since you installed your new cables?
@thebanditsix8 ай бұрын
Passenger side works perfectly, drivers side not working when handbrake pulled, but if I manually push the mechanism on the caliper it locks the wheel.
@ixela97 ай бұрын
@thebanditsix When you open the shaft (which you need to open the insides first of the caliper) there is a bearing there. It could be broken already. This is what caused mine to not properly push the small pill inside to push the pistons. FYI the bearing code is 7E-HKS 15.8X20.6X19-1*NTN Aside from that inspect the shaft also, it could also be worn out.

Did your rebuild kit come with that silver snap ring that snaps over the piston seal? Every vid I have seen nobody had one or showed it even being installed. But maybe it’s because 91 civic si ?
@Coory210 ай бұрын
That confused me as well. I’m not exactly sure which models have them but mine certainly did not when I disassembled it and it didn’t come with the kit I bought. For this caliper the piston is all that holds the seal in place.

Does the Seiken rubber grease have pfte like the super lube you linked in the description? Just curious. Thoughts on that vs super lube vs sil glyde vs red rubber grease? God i have too many greases.
@Coory2 Жыл бұрын
I’ve had a look at Seiken’s website and it doesn’t say, really not sure if it does or not. Don’t have experience using sil glyde but have had good results using the super lube on some other calipers I’ve rebuilt and used on track. As long as it’s rated for high temperatures I think you’ll be good 👍🏼
