After digging into this issue I’m very confused and disappointed. It does seem a little odd that they moved on so quickly from this stuff. On one hand I respect the resiliency because they’ve literally been through hell and back, on the other hand I can see how it might be distasteful considering that people have been hurt. It’s hard for me to imagine dgd being the wildest band out there as far as partying and enabling bad behavior goes because their lyrics are about philosophical concepts and they’re all relatively clean cut looking guys in their 30s. On another note, Tilian’s scandal doesn’t seem to be one of “rape” but more of a coercive act in which he got the woman to give consent but with apprehension and reluctance. This is still a morally apprehensible and disgusting thing to do but wouldn’t this be different then full on rape? Maybe I’m wrong. I’m just really confused on what’s actually going on.

DGD was my favorite band for, Jesus, close to 10 years before this. I wasn't one of those rabid strawberry emoji-ass fans, but both the music and their weirdness spoke to me on a personal level. I especially felt that Jon Mess's style and approach resonated with some of the ways I think and write, and I thought it would be a pipe dream to collaborate with him on something. Strange maybe, I know, whatever. Even after Tilian was booted, I sympathized with the rest of the band for what they must be going through. To now know that this was a systemic thing, that responsibility could have been taken a long time ago and that everyone is complicit on some level has made me re-contextualize everything I thought I knew about them. Comments and lyrics I thought must have been ironic due to the band often writing from "the perspective" of a guy who sucks, I now see in a different light. I realize now I was projecting a lot on them when I didn't really know anything because I wanted to have a hero. Sucks to come to that realization. I can understand why people would run from it, even though I think it's shameful, especially when it comes at the expense of victims. But I can't ignore it. This will change how I interact with art and music going forward Anyway, that's why the context you're giving is really important, I'm sad it's true, but glad you guys aren't afraid to talk about it.

I am a woman, and have been a fan of DGD for a few years. I really had no idea about the issues with Jonny Craig and all that even though i was a fan of Emarosa. I just never really followed any band closely enough to really be in the know about stuff like that. Just giving context into what kind of a fan I am - very casual. I don’t think I even watched a music video of theirs until 2020. But as a woman and a fan of DGD I do appreciate you guys talking about the more negative aspects of the band. Like I had no idea that they knew Tim was using pills- no idea Matt went to rehab. I am on Reddit so I did watch the Tilian allegations unfold. I have to say- you guys giving more context to the actual character of these guys is important. It’s nice to see men care that women are being abused. I personally don’t think Tilian deserves to come back to the band. I think they really need to learn from the mistakes of Jonny Craig. If they want continued success they can’t keep fucking up. I’m from the Bay Area and Sacramento areas. Jonny is doing free shows. Someone with his talent and the opportunities he’s had- If he had been sober and hadn’t made those mistakes- wouldn’t have to play free shows this far into their musical career. I’m glad they got knocked down a peg from a coheed tour to playing small venues- hopefully it’s a humbling experience. It is sad for me to see the fan base not really care about the allegations. It makes me rethink if that is something I really want to be a part of- even casually.
