Yes. Although there are areas that do look drastically different. Also keep in mind that nobody ever accused the previous game of looking bad. Also career mode and all the other goodies make the new game worth it, for me anyway.

Well said, @PoochAndBoo, don't waste YOUR money, on this for almost $100 for the standard version, wait about 1 year, at least, to see if MSFS 2024, improves, I doubt it, also, the ATC, has not be improved, in over 30 years, it still is like playing a video, from the 1070's.

There's a lot missing in 2024 though. The PG is the same PG shipped with MSFS 2024 I.e. mostly American cities, but doesn't include the World Updates, a lot of the new satelite imagery wasn't updated and consiquantanly there was a lot of missing procedural tech as well. Basically at this stage it's just a really bad idea to compare the two sims.

Ofcourse not, the grand canyon was done with photogrametry and involves flying a plane over an area back and fore taking 1000's of photos, a computer then stiches them together to form a 3D landscape, it's a cool technique but isn't available everywhere. Generally you'll have satelite imagery with auto generated buildings but they've created several biome based on location data like forests and the outback and also procedurally they have infered ground detail now much better, before we had grass and trees, but now the trees are 3D, we have grass and many other vegitation, rocks, crops etc, all identified from the satelite ground data.

Keep in mind that each monitor/tv or even people's eyes can all display or see different color temperature. Some people can even see different color temperatures in each eye. I think most people see the greenish color, but it's 100% ok if you saw it as yellow. 👍

That btw isn't snow on trees. It is frost. It is baked in satellite imagery, but when grass freezes, it turns a bit white. It is cold conditions without snow that lead to that specific white ish effect.

It's possible at some point I could make a video on how I make my stuff. The short version.. I record hdr in OBS h265. Editid with Adobe Premiere Pro in an HDR sequence. I export HDR hdr 2100 PQ with no Metadata. I have also used daVinci Resolved to edit videos but I prefer Premier Pro.

My only reservation with the new sim is that the aerial 'satellite' imagery for MSFS 2024 looks like it was taken in the fall, nothing appears that green. Hyde Park in London is just a yellow coloured field. It's a bit deppressing really, you can see the effect even in this video. Doesn't matter what the season is. I'm hoping they can address that through the procedural grass. In Citizencon 2954 they demonstrated how the procedural tech informed the land colour at higher altitudes, Asobo could use that tech to get rid of the yellow landscape.

Hello, there is something artificial in the new game and that's normal. in MSFS2020 it's just photos most of the time but in MSFS2024 the photos are reworked by AI and doesn't look natural, like in a video game.

I noticed that the tree coverage in 2024 often has nothing to do with the real world which is a bit disappointing. Particularly Wasdale Head in England but I think several of these locations are afflicted too. For instance the first grand canyon clip probably doesn't have those trees. At 7:35 Atsugi naval airport, google earth has photogrammetry so you can see the trees are quite wrongly placed. They've taken the nuances out of the orthophoto, things are made generic. Noticed the runway threshold with arrows on, in the real world those are completely worn away. The aprons are featureless too. There is a little dugout to the left of the runway, that's a baseball pitch but in both 2020 and 2024 that's washed out, made generic. It looks pretty good in isolation but when you actually check it against reality it's quite a bit different. I'm surprised that they didn't adhere to the orthophotos. The buildings at the airport are wrong too but that could be forgiven. What I said back in 2020, they should have gotten an inexpensive imaging satellite and do photogrammetry of the entire world. AI aided for details. That way they don't need manual labor and it's always correct and current. They had one job :)

Well that's literally what they did. For everything where they don't have low-flying photogrammetry, they used new Bing based satellite imagery for photogrammetry. Obviously not as detailed as everything else, but still way better than before.

@@martyristau8212 well microsoft doesn't seem to have satellites and how can you conclude that any kind of photogrammetry from satellite have been done? if they did what I said, all buildings everywhere would be correct. all steep cliff faces too. And tree placement and height would be correct. Instead tree placement is quite wrong. Like I said, try comparing the japanese airport to google earth that has a 3D model. The departure from the real world is pronounced and in many cases don't make sense. It's like they went out of their way to get it wrong. Since it is a flight sim and airports are low key important and small, I would use detailed ortho imagery for the runways and taxiways such that they actually look real. For large natural landscapes you can more easily generalize.

It ran pretty well. Although this was an alpha. Keep in mind that alphas typically don't run as smooth as the final product. So I wouldn't judge it to much. But for the most part it did run well. I played it on my main PC with 7950x & 7900 xt. Also ran it on my laptop with a 4060. It ran pretty smooth on both.

@@philsnewaddress On my hardware it was pretty smooth. There are bigger more expensive GPUs that would improve things, especially in NYC or big cities. Keep in mind the tech is changing fast these days. Also, the frame generation and upscaling are getting really good.

That is Mick Gordon. He's the master composer that did the Doom Eternal soundtrack. This song happens to be from Atomic Heart. It had vocals but I removed them. There is a whole documentary on the guy on YT that was interesting. It's called "How The DOOM Soundtrack Changed Metal Forever"

Yep. Pretty much everything from the world updates were missing. I'm sure the game will look even better at launch. Also, from my experience of playing Alphas, is that they are normally a way earlier version than they currently are working on.

There's no need these things won't be part of the base game per se as we are used, they are streamed. This include world updates, meshes, etc... And 2024 alpha was about testing that which clearly for some people didn't worked properly as the autogen was quite poor in some areas.

What's the singing at 30:25? Game looks gorgeous in HDR! Thanks for playing in it. I know most monitors don't support HDR, but mine does (it's a mini-LED, not an OLED), and few games use HDR well. This one does!

That's a very poor rendition of On Top Of Old Smokey. HDR is becoming more better in games overall. Sea of Thieves also does it will. With Flight Simulator it's fantastic. It's amazing good monitors are getting.

It's a new game, so you'll most likely have to buy it. If you are on game pass, then you're good to go. Although I don't really recommend game pass anymore, although I do still like the game pass for PC.

I mostly agree. But the avatar customization could be a lot better. I briefly mention it in the video, but in Elite Dangerous, about 8 years ago, had a better one, it was so good my brother though I somehow scanned my face.

I can't say for all the videos on the internet since I have not seen any other videos. I've been too busy, been meaning to check that obsidanant guy. But that Tech Alpha only had a hand full of things to do. My email was sent to my junk folder, so I didn't get on till the last night, but from my limited experience that was the only challenge. Also, it's not really fair to call that an arcade flight. It's as much as a sim as the rest of the game. It's just a racing challenge. I'm sure if they put more of those in the game, people would have showed more. And the photo mode challenges were pretty weak and a bit confusing but at the time i was in a rush since the demo was ending soon. So, I just included a bit of everything I tried in it.
