Really nice video. I have a Discus pair that spawn quite often but each time they either eat the eggs as they hatch or the fry just do not seem to find their parents at the free swimming stage. I went as far as placing one of the parent discus with her fry in a small cube aquarium and the fry seemed to ignore her.

I love the breeding pairs , especially the ones @4:41 , @5:22 , @8:04 , and @8:17 and everything in between , they are all awesome . What do you call the ones @31:58 what is the color called ? is it a pigeon blood ? I dont recall much , it has been years since I had any discus but I like that pattern and color . I also like the bright orange ones , and the solid blues , so many it's crazy . wow , @44:16 , what an incredible group of young fish , so many keepers in there , I would love to have . You have some amazing fish and your facility is awesome , It appears you are in Italy , how far away is safe to ship them . Is the U.S.A. too far ? .

Thomas Holden it’s there to prevent inexperienced fish from eating their spawn.

@@ArjanKop OK, I see. Thanks, I never would have figured that out. But if the breeders are inexperienced wouldn't there also be a risk of them eating the fry after hatching? Can discus eggs be hatched & raised w/o the parents as is often done with angelfish?

Thomas Holden they can, but it’s a lot of work. The fry depend on the parents for food, eating their mucus. There’s a way involving egg yolk smeared on the side of a plate, but it just isn’t as good as ‘the real thing’. The larvae will be protected by the wire screen for a while, and the parents will get used to the wriggling mass.

Commento: Buongiorno, ho notato la grande esperienza da lei dimostrata nel saper gestire e allevare al meglio i discus. e per questo le faccio i miei più sentiti complimenti. Le chiedo un consiglio riguardo a questo pesce, in quanto desidero allevarlo al meglio in base alla mie possibilità: possiedo un acquario da 400 lt. effettivi, con filtro esterno della jbl , modello predisposto per acquari da 600 lt. due lampade a plafoniera a led, e una lampada germicida che faccio funzionare saltuariamente, attualmente ospitato da circa 30 aulonocare, avviato da due anni. il tutto funziona alla perfezione i pesci stanno bene sono cresciuti e si riproducono meravigliosamente, ho inserito pietre e legni di torba. faccio i cambi parziali usando solo acqua di rubinetto. desidero togliere le aulonocare e immettere i pesci discus: l'arredamento credo possa andar bene questo citato, al limite potrei togliere alcune pietre. non intendo inserire piante, in quanto insoddisfatto dalle precedenti esperienze: secondo lei, è necessario un aeratore oppure non è indispensabile ? la lampada germicida per quante ore deve funzionare ? prima di immettere i discus è necessario disinfettare l'acquario oppure faccio un cambio d'acqua del 100%100 circa ? che tipo di additivi mi consiglia di immettere in acquario ? tipo anticloro, batteri ecc. ? quale è la temperatura ideale per questo pesce ? è necessario immettere qualche pulitore del tipo ancistrus, oppure non è indispensabile ? più o meno, quanta acqua va sostituita e in che frequenza ? può andar bene solo acqua di rubinetto con ph 7,5 kh 12 e 400 micro simenz circa ? oppure devo anche miscelare l'acqua con quella di osmosi ? grazie
