Honestly what a complete load of pre-race crap and non drama. Just get on with the racing.

That track is too damn narrow. They need to move the inner track boundary a few feet inward. Some proper track prep wouldn't hurt either, but then I don't know what kind of clay they have to deal with in NZ. Might be doing the best with what they have.

Sounds alot like one of the Adelaide tracks which was no surprise when it closed since they ran it into the ground so much that both spectators and drivers started to boycott it!

@@TS-1267 Yup, until they cannot race anymore due to head injury , ...the track used to be cinder it was mint, some race nights the burm can be over a foot and a half high, I've been told because of all the houses around the track the staff are only allowed fk all time to prep it due to noise complaints, every body has a choice to run their but it doesn't make the track any less dangerous,...it's days are limited, be sad to see it closed...

Western Springs is a classic track and it has been since 1929 but sadly there closing it cause of the neighbours complaining about it being to loud but what do you expect when you buy a house next to a racetrack.

I'm an Australian, who's last visit, not just to NZ, but to Western Springs, was in 1983. To be honest, it's my one and only visit to this legendary venue. I enjoyed it immensely then, and I feel so very lucky to live in a time that I can pick up my "phone", and tune into the action in real time, if I like!! It still amazes me!! P.S - I remember seeing Barry Butterworth race over here in Australia at both the Sydney Showground Speedway and Parramatta City Raceway, both hear in Sydney and now, like the Great Man himself, all three are now, sadly but memories. But some of the fondest memories of my life. Hey you Kiwis, don't you ever, EVER let yourself get fat and lazy like us Aussies, and let your beautiful Western Springs Speedway become a "thing of the past", without so much as a Protest March, or Picket or even something as simple as a Petition in support of keeping these vibrant, colourful Public Landmarks, places that have become iconic, and some of the last "family friendly Public Entertainment Venues, place where everyone, and everything has been able to get started, everything from the"place that Mum met Dad the first time " to the place where future World Champions got their start. These places should be cherished, and always kept in Public Ownership, and never, EVER sold off and out to the corrupt influence of someone as vile as Rupert Murdoch, who ended up owning the property that the Sydney Showground Speedway was built on, and turned it into a stinking Movie Studio. The only other people this pleased more than him, were his cabal of obscenely wealthy friends, who'd started to buy up all the prime inner City real estate, and who just could "no longer be subject to the noise of the patrons and the Car racing noise", twice a month, 5 months a year'… Well goodness me, how terribly inconvenient for you, but we were here for 85yrs, and remember a few short years before, when inner City Sydney was called a "slums that are in dyer need of wholesale demolition", and how you priced the working class people out, and " Gentrified" the place, so it's all yours now? .... DON'T LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU, KIWIS!! Much love and my best wishes to you, from across the "ditch". And cheers 🍺 from Australia!!!
