Powered lift has to include slipstream blown wings , losing power loses lift, simple criteria. BLC could also come into powered lift for the same reason. Surely. "rotary wing" covers all the types of "rotor" whether unpowered as in gyros or tip driven or shaft driven and fixed vertical axis "propellers" are still physically propellers due to their twist, fixed or only collective pitch change (eg volocopter, ehang etc - as in common-sense observation . The traditional vtol wheel of misfortune or permutation diagrams cover the possible combinations. Unnecessary convolutions over semantics do not seem to clarify any real issues, dependence on continuous power for anti gravity and control is the nub of the certification and safety issue. ATOL will obsolete most of the 1100 plus VFS evtol candidates with exceptions only for when extended hovering is required, hovering gets you nowhere but costs too much in all ways.

Someone told me they were going to fix the XV-15 that crashed. It was outside behind our lab. It was crashed cut into pieces with a sawzall. It rained in it for years. It was cannibalized to keep the other going.

Bert Rutan was the chief test pilot on the XC 14200A, he maintains that the problems could have been overcome and the military and civilian market still needs an aircraft with these capabilities.

You know, tilt rotor will always have their problems but they are wholey unique in capability. Really cool seeing a civi tilt rotor aircraft. Thanks for archiving this mate.

The first involving a helicopter. The first in-flight refueling took place on June 27, 1923, when a DH-4B carrying Lts. Virgil Hine and Frank W. Seifert passed gasoline through a hose to another DH-4B flying beneath it carrying Lts. Lowell H. Smith and John P. Richter. Two months later on Aug. 27-28, Smith and Richter made an endurance flight which lasted 37 hours, 15 minutes, with 16 refueling contacts.

It's really nothing special - a two spool, two stage centrifugal compressors, two stage axial turbines with exhaust powering a multistage axial APU. He doesn't discuss tech details, just a wastes time with self-promotion. GE and others have better patents but don't want to spend money developing it. Their 'environmental burden' concerns tells how low GE and DoD/the Democrats have fallen with respect to the military.

Many years ago, I worked in commercial heat and air for several years. I have been one of the ground crewmen that hooks or unhooks units being lifted. The fist helicopter I had hovering about 30 feet above me was a SIKORSKY H-64 SKYCRANE, flown by Erickson, the other times it was a SIKORSKY H-34 with Hotlanta Aircrane.

I WANT TO COMMENT THAT THE FUTURE FLYING CARS ARE ALMOST READY. IN FIRST YOU MUST HAVE A COMPLETE VISION 90 DEGREES UP AND DOWN, SINCE YOU MUST LOOK COMPLETELY WHEN YOU TAKE OFF AND LAND VERTICALLY. NOTHING SHOULD LOOK LIKE A NORMAL CAR. AND A DOWNWARD INCLINATION. I HAVE ALREADY SEEN SOME PROTOTYPES AND THE PERSON HAS TO LOOK TO THE SIDES. NOT LIKE THIS.

Can absolutely land like a plane, can absolutely autorotate it just will be a very rough landing due to the low rotor mass, Doesnt need to autorotate since it can glide like a plane.

I love Tiltrotor, for the shape and its capability, i admire XV-3, XV-15, V-22, BA- 609, Eagle Eye TR-918, V-247, V-280, I wish each plane is continually production, and have civil version too, and maybe the Eagle Eye convert into manned personal Tiltrotor, or just 4 seater version. And for air ambulance..
