Great song! I recall that a lot of folks really dissed this album, but it has some fantastic songs, including this one. FWIW, I love the Physical Graffiti-inspired gtr in the verse....and, in retrospect, a Stone Temple Pilots vibe that pre-dated STP by a few years! (I wonder if the De Leo brothers were subconsciously influenced by 'All of The Law"....)

really needs some keyboard fill. I used to go to The Roadmender when it was a youth-club mid-seventies . It used to have bands on then, some subsequently famous , but they ''re-modelled'' the bui;ding and it lost its original purpose . ''The Roadmender'' was a book written around 1920 , with a Christian story . The club was originally a youth club , with support from church groups .

Thanks for posting these. This is a great tune from Strawberry's. Captain can be quite sensible when he wants too, a great entertainer & guitarist & songwriter & part time loony. I was going to go to the gig but was let down at the last minute.

I first heard New Rose 46 f***ing years ago in L.A. on Rodney on the ROQ. Could barely hear the vocals on this video... but who cares?? It's still great!!

Should have called it a day when Hugh left the band; it's never worked the same since. Baz is just awful and J.J looks like he should be playing in a pop band.

Saw them in Rochester in October. It was nice to see them, but they’ve lost a step or two. But so have I, I guess.

Not that I think it’s bad, quite the opposite actually, it’s just that the original band had that certain magic that even when they brought in the brass and the extra guitar, at least they had some of the magic left. It was still good to see them. Now I prefer to see Straighten Out, because you know it’s not the Stranglers, that I can really get into the live vibe of the music again. It’s good to see that John is still looking good 👍

Always loved this song. I don't have a favourite Strangers song, it depends on the mood I'm in, but I always end up back at The Raven.
