@Dr. Megan - Prednisone Pharmacist I had the bloodwork done many times & it shows normal to slightly elevated rates. I been to an ophthalmologist to check further into the possibility of GCA. After the test results, The Specialist stated I had inflammation of some of the smaller blood vessels in the eyes themselves but she didn't believe there was a presence of GCA despite I had all the classic symptoms such as temporal pain some really funk visual issues & hyper sensitivity to sunlight & extreme headaches. Instead she's sending me to an opticians to get special lenses top correct this called FL41 lenses which I think is more about buying something I don't really need but going anyway to see if this could be the issue & My Rheumatologist insists I take prednisone despite me stating all my issues with the side effects forcing me off that particular drug & he did even explain to me how to use prednisone & especially the tapering aspect of them. I am at a loss right now as to how to deal with this. So I am managing it myself until I need further help from the doctor. I just cant keep going from one med to another becoming more sick then I should be.

Can you do a video on adrenal insuffiency? There are diff names but not adrenal fatigue but there is 3 diff kinds of adrenal insuffiency and primary is Addison disease & 2nd is usually a pituitary problem. And one more…there are no videos w useful information that discusses the reality of taking this and what happens. It sure has been a life saver for me. I can’t make cortisol and prednisone 5mg 2x a day is not much but the side effects are horrible you never know what to expect. If I get any type of infection I double dose and the only time I ever had to go to er for help was when I was testing out supplements etc. ashwagandha & NAC doesn’t go w prednisone too well. I have other incidents that just made me sick but maybe you could address this topic because it’s what you are trying to prevent with your valuable info. Thank you for the videos and thank you so much for the information you share. I can say it has helped me tremendously!!

After being on Prednisone for 73 straight days for a skin condition (starting at 60mg and working downward 60, 40, 20, 15, 10, 5, etc) I experienced horrible withdrawals symptoms. My fatigue was so great that I could barely walk from my bedroom to my living room. My muscles and joints ached a great deal. I couldn't even take my dog for a walk. Basically, I was a real lethargic mess. I followed my doctor's tapering instructions which involved 10 days at 10mg, 2 weeks at 5mg, a week at 2.5mg, and 4 days at 1.25mg. I was hoping that tapering at this rate would be sufficient to spare me any withdrawal symptoms, but no such luck. It's been 2 weeks since I completely stopped taking Prednisone and I still feel a great deal of withdrawal symptoms. However, i am starting to feel a tiny bit better each day, and am hopeful that in another week or so I'll start getting back to normal. Bottom line: Prednisone withdrawal symptoms are very debilitating and if you can avoid them through the CORRECT tapering schedule (for you) you should definitely do so.

My first round of PMR went for a little over 1 1/2 years. My shoulders, neck, and hips got so stiff and painful that I couldn't lift my hands above my shoulders and it basically freaked my wife out. I went to the doctor a few times and he couldn't get off the bursitis diagnosis. I am a very active person. When eating ibuprofen like candy would no longer help, I could no longer play pickleball. The symptoms came on and gradually got worse over a 3 - 4 month period. At 5 months, I called it my "old man" disease because I felt like a crippled 90 year old at 61 years old Finally, my wife hit the internet and eventually came across PMR. We read about it and it sure seemed to fit. I went back to my doctor after shoulder and hip X-rays and he wanted to stick to bursitis. After 5 months and only being able to snooze for 2 to 3 hours per day in a recliner, I told him I wasn't leaving his office until he prescribed me some prednisone. He then looked up PMR on his computer, we matched my symptoms to everything he read and "voila", he had an epiphany. I started off with 40 mg of pred and was referred to a rheumatologist. I immediately took the prednisone and 4 hours later the pain was melting away. 1 day later, I felt like I was 20 (when you're 61 that is something). We tapered to 20 mg fairly quickly. My rheumatologist was not very helpful and told me that I would be on prednisone for the rest of my life. I read about pred and PMR and said "No way." I went through my own process of figuring out how to taper by how I felt. In reading and hearing about other's prednisone problems, I consider myself very lucky. I was back on the pickleball court within 2 days. I was dead tired but felt great and was back up to full speed within a couple weeks. I pretty much felt normal and didn't have any weight problems. I had to get over saying things like "Wow, I can lift my arm straight up", and "Look, I can put my coat on by myself." I would taper a bit (maybe 2.5 mg) and see how it felt. I was off after about a year and 7 months. The doctor thought I was still on 20 mg, so I had a little "emergency" stash. It came in handy here about 2 months ago. I started off with the stiff shoulders and neck, but also my jaw got very stiff. That is a symptom of Giant Cell Arteritis. (You can suddenly go blind and never get your vision back in 1 or both eyes.) I since moved and tried to get an appointment with a rheumatologist. They were booked out way too far. I decided to start taking 20 mg of my old prednisone. Ahhh, relief. My new doctor here took some blood and prescribed me some prednisone while I wait for my appointment with the Mayo clinic.

Hello Dr. Megan I've been on Prednisone 60mg for about 2 months now; I'm taking it for an autoimmune disorder called VKH (Vogt Koyanagi Harada Syndrome) with the added caveat that I am also a type 1 diabetic prior to this. So as you can imagine, controlling my blood sugars has been very hard especially now that I've been taking it longer. Would you recommend I go Keto? I dont think I have many options at this point; my sugars are up and down all the time that cant be good. :( I really need help I swear I'm trying to be good and limiting myself.
