She still had much evidence of her use as a troop transport. ie:- the engine control telegraph still had 'Action Stations'' on it...Plus She was still pretty damn fast at 28-29 knots. Once the inside was stripped and sold, that was the end of it ever becoming a museum. It would cost in the world of 350 to 400 million just to restore the outside. Add to that $70,000 USD per month for slip fees. If you can do math, you can figure out that it’s just an astronomical number and all for what? People won’t pay to save it the certainly won’t pay to see an empty ship.

And you wouldn't have to restore the entire ship, just the exterior and the portions used to accommodate social gatherings, meetings, anniversaries etc. Too bad one or two of the billionaires in this country couldn't step up to help out.

And the fact that the interior was stripped would be an advantage because it removed all the asbestos. Now it could be configured to almost any specification.

It's a weird thing when it comes to the ALP-45s on the Gladstone Branch. A lot of times they'll just be run in diesel mode when they show up on this line, and I've never been able to fully figure it out myself.
