I am so pissed. They US government should have stepped up and got her and made her into a national park. Or Disney took her over and rebuilt her and her back in service with the fleet. Walt did sail on her. We have 2000 ships from the outer banks to key west on the bottom of the ocean. We don't need her to. What cop out. ITS OUR BLUE FLAG SHIP. Parties can raise millions of dollars for the White House but can't raise a nickel to save and pay the back rent. She just wants love. Fine put her at the bottom, so in 40 years, some scuba diver gets in her and gets trapped in her..

There's a certain poignancy of this situation of the SS United States suffering this fate. With much going on beyond this dockyard. There's a certain parallel here! I'd like to hope that it'll turn out different from matching this. I sincerely hope that it won't be deep sixed in the same way.

This lady deserves the best she can get ! She is a natural beauty . She represents a wonderful post war United States when America was at one with each other . We must move her to a dry dock and put her on hold until there is capital to start her restoration ! So many times in life I’ve seen the wrong path but in many cases the path is corrected ! We need to Talk to our new President before any decisions on the new path is planed for this lady ! Thanx for understanding Captain Mark H Wirth

No need come across the pond for that. The extremely powerful SS United States engines are a development from the engines of the Iowa class battleships. Improved for the Forrestal class carriers and refined for the SS United States. 250k hp. Top speed classified (40 knots, 80 kph). This ship is a legend across the globe. I am Swiss, we don't even have access to the ocean. I know SS United States and Iowa. You guys saved all 4 Iowas but not the pinnacle of what those engines could so? Come on guys. Everyone complaining sending 50 bucks is enough to keep her in port while we figure this out. We can beach her!!!

As we approach the eighty year anniversary of the end of World War Two this country, like the ship has been through so much change. @jamesranker6275

Once the inside was stripped and sold, that was the end of it ever becoming a museum. It would cost in the world of 350 to 400 million just to restore the outside. Add to that $70,000 USD per month for slip fees. If you can do math, you can figure out that it’s just an astronomical number and all for what? People won’t pay to save it the certainly won’t pay to see an empty ship.
@robbhahn8897
@robbhahn8897 11 күн бұрын
And you wouldn't have to restore the entire ship, just the exterior and the portions used to accommodate social gatherings, meetings, anniversaries etc. Too bad one or two of the billionaires in this country couldn't step up to help out.

@robbhahn8897 exactly!! All they're worried about is worried about is endorsing elections and sports. We need to preserve history. Instead of sinking this beautiful ship that'll never be seen again, at least clean up the exterior. Hell even if it were slowly made into a floating shopping mall, it's better than sinking it
@jamesranker6275
@jamesranker6275 11 күн бұрын
@@robbhahn8897 again, the costs are astronomical and the return is not. They had 40 years to something, anything with this ship and as you can see, less than nothing was done. Better get your scuba certification up to date because that’s where it’s going. Also, I love how you’re so quick to spend random billionaires money but not your own. Seriously people need to stop with that “rich person who is going to save it” like for what? So you can go once and pay your $40 admission fee to see……oh that’s right, nothing because it’s all been sold off.

@@jamesranker6275 Ha! Have you tallied how much was wasted on campaign ads this year? Kind of makes the cost of making the SS United States look paltry.
