Hey Brian, Having the sea as a landmark is perfect-you’ll never lose your bearings! As for the line issue, don’t worry, mate-it happens to the best of us. I’ve been there before; we’re only human, but it’s a good reminder of how critical it is since it could lead to a spin............. Preflight checks are essential, though lines can still tangle during inflation, especially with a reverse launch. Forward launches give you a clear view of your lines, making it easier to spot problems and abort if needed.......................... And remember, always start your first leg into the wind is paramount - it’s the safest way to ensure you can make it back easily if something doesn’t go to plan. Keep Flying safe and will join you sometime for sure!

Nice hat 😇 Nice flying zone with the sea as a landmark, can't get lost! For the Line, shit happens! its true that you have to check your lines during preflight checks but it happens as well that when you inflate your wing from your back (sorry for my English) checking your lines while running is more difficult than if you inflate it in front of you and then turn yourself to take off. in this case you have time to check your lines before starting the take off process and be able to abort it.

Have you not seen the videos of lines snapping and wings ripping in half? Wing condition is very important.
@MidFlightCrisis
@MidFlightCrisis 20 күн бұрын
@@mikes6216 hi, no I haven’t. But just to point out for my subs, it isn’t normal for a wing to just rip in half or a line just snap. What were the circumstances around this? Poor wing maintenance? Damage? Just to reiterate; these wings are incredibly tough as are the lines and for them to ‘rip in half’ or a line just snap I would say is incredibly rare and would have to have been caused by some other influence.
@mikes6216
@mikes6216 20 күн бұрын
@@MidFlightCrisis Also they fall out of the sky when the porosity gets too high, and there is no warning unless you send it in regularly for exams. Getting the lines wet multiple times can make them snap and it gets worse with acro too. If a wing gets too hot or scrapes on pavement or gravel it loses its coating and on a damp morning... fall out of the sky again. Even a 1 year old new wing can fall from the sky (porosity) if it is stored in a hot storage container (thanks to Brad Roper for telling us this), eg. Florida. Mice bites, insect holes, grit from sand. The wing is absolutely no guaranteed as you infer in the video, google for some examples which will shake you, unfortunately. Buying a used wing (even just 1 year old or less) and not getting it inspected can be a life changing mistake.
@mikes6216
@mikes6216 20 күн бұрын
Not saying you have to get it inspected, it is just that the failure day of the wing can come with no notice and no expectation or suspicion before it happens. If someone near me did inspections I would get mine done :)
@MidFlightCrisis
@MidFlightCrisis 20 күн бұрын
I hear you Mike. I think the thing to take away from this, and to try and put a more positive spin on it is; if your buying a wing, store it, care for it as if it’s a new born baby (as per instructions) and send it away for regular inspections. Buying used should come with a service history and should be inspected. Thanks for your comments. The wing is the most important part of your set up and should be respected (maintained, stored and used as per manufacturers guidelines). All valid points though. Thanks
@mikes6216
@mikes6216 20 күн бұрын
@@MidFlightCrisis Nobody reads the manufacturer guidelines so I just wanted to repeat the message I learned from youtube and FB, recently there was a conversation on why not buy a never used 1 year old wing from someone who had it in storage. Forgot to mention, also saw the wings tearing in half in facebook clips. I recall those usually being during high G maneuvers. Storing a wing in its bag and still leaving the bag in the sun causes damage it turns out. I learned that from a youtube video of a fly-in where a wing repair guy talked about what he learned over the years. Also watch for line stretch, you can measure those yourself and also do line break tests like the inspectors do. It is worth watching those type of videos if you come across them :)
