Two other "Sad & Sick" Father/Son Scenes on TV and a Movie was in School Ties with Matt Damon's Character Charles Dillon has a very challenging day. He sees Big Brother Grayson who is an Alumni at St. Matthews now a Harvard Hot Shot get glory and recognition. David Greene The Scholarship Boy wins the School The Homecoming Game, then at Dinner his Father tries to tell him he's just as good but deep down his Father knows he isn't. Even Dillon admitted that if he hadn't had the family ties and contacts nobody would care who he was. Then on Mad Men, Pete Campbell a 26 Year Old Up and coming Advertising Man asks for an advance on his Trust Fund. His Father doesn't give it to him, and it wasn't until much later did he and his Brother discover that the Family was Broke. He couldn't understand why his parents were willing to settle when his brother was in a DUI (it was the 1960's mind you), but not him.

Philip Seymour Hoffman said when he saw Mission: Impossible 3, where did he see that person? He noticed that oh yeah Al Pacino was playing a dull student at a prestigious high school in the Academy Award winning Best Actor Sent of a Woman At that time, I never thought that I would become one of Hollywood's leading actors in the future

No matter how rich, Willis Sr. is a failed father. Not only he fails to properly educate his son but he watches with a severe gaze how Willis Jr. is torn apart and humiliated in front of all his friends and peers because he has not learned how to stand up for himself. In real life George would hate his father forever.

The rethoric of him not informing is all nice & stuff for a movie… but in reality, those 3 kids broke the law and Charles should have testified. And George, depicted as a monster, at least did spit the three names first and pass it over to Charles to confirm. Charles should have just confirmed that he saw the same kids and it was all over.

Most people remember Al Pacino and his speech from this movie but the genius of Philip Seymour Hoffman shines in every scene he is in. He nails the subtle hubris of someone who grew up rich so well that is a joy to behold. Such a gifted actor who died too soon.

I think Charles was wrong for not saying who he saw. Those kids could have seriously hurt the Dean.

Frank says at the hearing that he didn't know whether Charlie's silence was right or wrong. However, one must remember that Mr. Trask, the dean, was basically offering Charlie a bribe. I.E. Mr. Trask would get Charlie into Harvard if and only IF he squealed. I think that put Charlie in an awkward position. Furthermore, if he DID squeal, he would be humiliated for it.
