Nicely demonstrated! ^_^ I'm a little confused about why/when to choose a nose-down vs nose-up/regular cobra though. Do you generally prefer nose-down cobra or do you use it instead of regular cobra for higher even higher winds than regular cobra?
@ChasingContours
@ChasingContours 11 ай бұрын
I think the reason you use nose down is because you can set it all up, inspect lines and have it full inflated. Normal cobra means you either have the wing nose up or sideways and the wind wants to get under it so you’re constantly having to battle to keep it down and dragging you. Nose down all the power is going down so it doesn’t drag you

Nice! I have never thought about using this to launch. I have only done it in ground handling when my wing flipped over.

Why continue to inflate the canopy, when you could see an airborne pilot approaching from your left? Obstacles, wind, traffic CHECK before getting in the way.

@@buzzzthrower555 oh, and I wouldn’t call people fools for doing what they love. I could be thought of as a fool for flying paraglider’s, but we don’t take the risk lightly and just go running off a cliff. There’s training, studying, learning theory and putting it to practice. And then there’s even more advanced training, I’m doing a maneuvers clinic over a lake in 3 weeks, I’ll be collapsing and stalling and spinning my glider under the supervision of an instructor 3,000’ over a lake with my reserve parachute of course and rescue boats at the ready. And these BASE jumping “fools” do a lot of training to get to where they are too.

I'd love to see the whole set up of your Aoraki launch. I struggle to imagine how to unpack the wing, sort the lines and hook in on 50 degree snow. Also curious about the initial inflation.

I've done it on a full wing once. It's not very practical with a longer wingspan, it may drag on the ground a bit more, but it'll work.

Sick! Hoping to climb Mt Cook in December, although as I can’t paraglide we’ll just have to get back down the traditional way. I guess from a certain perspective you could consider para-alpinism cuts out some risk in the descent, in that you aren’t descending back through the gunbarrels as the conditions warm up. That takeoff looks outrageous though!!
