Catastrofic engine failure. Major negligence on part of the owner, probably has no idea of mechanics... Sad really.

I bet the hold down cylinder nuts are loose because when the engine seized it stretched the crankcase to cylinder studs :(

Look at the bright side, the owner was able to pull over and the case is still ok hopefully as well as they have you to fix it. Open up the wallet!

Ahh, but why did it run out of oil? Is this the one you worked on previously that had the smoking problem?
@2stroketurbo3 күн бұрын
Nope, this is a different car, this one never smoked but had low compression and some blowby. This engine actually ran really good !

I wouldn't reuse the studs without helicoil. Was the cylinder over bored and the walls too thin?

The brake system consists of a primary and secondary brakesystem, both going front and rear. The right container is for primary system. So front and rear markings are wrong!

Yeah I don't know about parts availability for those but I know that's gotta be a bit of heartbreak. People really have to check out their fluid levels on their equipment. The old saying about an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure is very fitting here.

@vanceblosser21553 күн бұрын
I think your diagnosis is correct, I incorrectly assumed that the owner kept the oil level up in my comment on the last video. Most people don't realize how hot this type of engine can get, remove enough oil and it's over very quickly. I've had an air cooled VW seize up and it was amazing how quickly it was over. And it stretched the connecting rods!

@@fritzkuhne2055 Yeah, I agree, but owners of classic vehicles like these, should not own them. But they must have the bucks, instead of brains. Too bad. Maybe stick with growing succulents in a garden. Low maintenance, if they get my point .....

Typical 2-stroke air cooled seizure damage. Low oil, high piston temperatures, metals expanding at different rates. Not to mention the thousand heat-cycles that cylinder must have gone through.

That engine is toast.... no matter how good you clean the metal shavings, there will always be a bit of it left in the bearings. Those pressed cranks cannot be taken apart easily to clean them properly (its hard to get them aligned properly afterwards). Also, because it seized, the whole crank schaft has had a significant blow of energy in a direction it wasnt designed for. That kills it also. Often it bends a connecting rod but the shaft also does not take the hit well. If you (the costumer) is lucky... the case can be saved.
@sheridanwane43913 күн бұрын
Yes, and not just the shock to the crank, the whole drivetrain had a big shock, possible damage to gear teeth etc.
@justsomeone893 күн бұрын
@@sheridanwane4391 i think the giubos have absorbed that hit for the most part. It is probably the reason that connection is rubber so it will shear first. Those seperate the drive train from the engine.
