Pretty soon it won't even be fun to travel down to Virginia to visit the Civil War sites. Just crazy development. Glad I am the age that I am and got to see these battlefields when I did back in the 70s through the early 2000s. You need a few billionaires on your side. Maybe you already have them, but you need more of them now.

Thank you for the tour. Colonel Borman and his wife Susan were recently interned, and I hope to pay my respects at their gravesite one day. We miss you both more every day.

I remember making my brother stand so I could take his picture. He jumped up and yelled , he whispered in my ear “ move soldier. “ He was not the same , he looked white. It was raining we were the only ones there. I didn’t find out till decades later how haunted it is. Ironically He did become an Army soldier 1 yr later 🤔 at 18

I've been a member since 1999, when all I could do was make $2 and $5 donations (I would literally write a check for $2...). Now I am part of the Honor Guard and the Color Bearers. It has been such a privilege to be part of this endeavor and to help in the efforts to not only preserve our unique American history, but also to promote education. Every year, all we need to do is grab a few students' attention so that they join us, and ensure that ABT will continue on. I'm well-satisfied that my dollars are making that happen.

I’ve been a member since the Civil War Trust days in the early 90s (when I was just a young teen obsessed with the American Civil War). It’s an incredible feeling to now be taking my young son to all of these battlefields and they’re even better preserved and larger than they were when I was a kid thanks in no small part to the work you do. In just the last half of 2024, I’ve been able to visit sites at Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, and Petersburg that the ABT made possible. These new preserved sites at existing battlefields literally didn’t exist in their current state 10-15 years ago! That’s remarkable! I will continue to donate and am proud that this will all be preserved for future generations. Best in 2025!

Long time member with a thought. Perhaps spend money earmarked for very well preserved sites like Gettysburg and Antietam- which are focused on to the umteenth degree-and use that to preserve completely vulnerable and unprotected sites on other locales.
@crookdudeКүн бұрын
There are portions of the Fort Blakeley Park in Alabama on surrounding farms in need of preservation.
@user-mc4sq3fk5dКүн бұрын
This is exactly one of the problems. ABT needs to focus on preserving unprotected sites before even thinking about 1-2 more acres at Gettysburg which is probably the most well preserved battlefields in the entire world. That is also not hyperbole.

Well, who won???? Union kept pushing Confederates down the battlefield moving forward and advancing. However, Confederate s used a questionable strategy of battle then retreat and then stop and do battle. Confederate outnumbered as usual could not fight indefinitely. But, McCLLEN WAS TOO SLOW AND TOO CAUSIOUS. THUS, BIG STALEMATE.

Other than the fact it was named "CSS Alabama", what did that ship specifically accomplish as a "significant contribution to Naval activities" for Alabama, as opposed to for the Confederate States of America that funded and commissioned it? And were there no contributions by Alabamians to the preservation of the Union?

I’m a redneck Texan and I know all you confederate flag wavers will love this, but…. I have always viewed secession as treason and I would have joined the Union Army to try and save our Texas. Most laymen southerners don’t seem to realize that the southern democrats caused this war, based on pure greed. They were as complicit in trying to destroy the country as the modern DNC are in today’s world. The democrat party needed to be stopped then just like they need to be stopped today. The politicians started it, the rich generals commanded it, and the poor whites were slaughtered in it. The southern elites used and abused the slaves and the soldiers who fought for them. And in the end, they caused their homeland to be destroyed and left in smoking ruins and the male population to be seriously depleted. General Houston tried to explain that to them but they refused to listen and demonized that great man. So whenever I see some idiot waving the confederate flag, I become amused at their ignorance. They have no idea….
