Dr. Reardon gave a remarkable presentation about this lesser known battle that deserves to be remembered.

it's a good documentary, well done and narrated. I just think keeping the emotions out of it, would have been better.

In the opinion of General Ignacy Prądzyński, one of the most outstanding Polish soldiers, Chief Kościuszko did not meet the basic criteria of military craftsmanship to take command of the armed forces, and the Battle of Maciejowice and the defeat of the insurgent forces confirmed this. The battle begins at dawn. The enemy's advantage is significant. Kościuszko decided that he would not be able to get through the swampy area in the floodplains of the Okrzejka River, against which he based one flank of his army. It was a criminal idea. We don't know what the Okrzejki swamps looked like in October 1794, but they were probably not much different from what we see today. Any reasonably fit and determined person can complete it. It's not a big area. After two hours of fighting at a distance, Kościuszko was surprised by a flanking maneuver and his army was wiped out. In fact, he should be court-martialed. Well, there was no one to do it.

Please stand strong- we need to preserve historic sites like this. It sounds like most places, Orange County is willing to agree to this without considering the consequences, just to get the tax dollars in their coffers!!

Meade had a chance to roll up the Army of N VA before it crossed below the M-D Line. Disagree with the experts, agree with Lincoln on that point.

If Meade remained supreme commander of the Army of the Potomac through the end of the war, what army was Grant leading?
@AmericanBattlefieldTrust14 сағат бұрын
As Lt. Gen. Grant had command over all Union Armies. So he gave orders to Meade in the East, Sherman in the West and Nathaniel Banks who commanded the Army of the Gulf.

Good job all and please keep up the fight! I am an Orange County resident and do not oppose develoment if it is well planned and executed. The proposed development will be a disaster for this area! The increase in traffic, needs for schools and associated utility infrastructure have not been thought through carefully by OC supervisors.

The short answer is because Jackson died previously at Chancellorsville. Had he been in command of his Corps during the advance into Gettysburg, he would have taken one look at that high ridge and siezed it Day One. Everything that happened at Gettysburg makes complete sense; no one did anything stupid. Maybe hubris or stress from pressure to conduct a successful campaign.

You know what? Eff the Cincinnati. I’m a descendant of Benedict Arnold and they won’t let me join. He was a brilliant soldier, the siege of Montreal, the Battle of Valcouer, and especially at Saratoga where he all but lost his leg. That’s worth something.

I live in Wilmington (right on the Brandywine) and it is difficult to take in the battle because it’s so spread out.

Jeff Daniels channeled Joshua Lawerence Chamberlain perfectly. After watching his portrayal of Chamberlain, I went out and bought every book on Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain that I could find. He is high on my list of favorite Civil Was generals. IMO, Jeff Daniels' performance is what made Gettysburg an all time classic.

Gettysburg was Lee's attempt to foil Grant at Vicksburg. An interesting idea. Problem was that Lee had always fought as defender not attacker. Longstreet was right in wanting to move around Meade's left forcing northern forces to abandon their positions.

So much history in this area. I lived in Northern Delaware for 20 years and visited Brandywine. It was beautiful. My mother’s family came with William Penn and received a land grant in Chester County. Cloud family. Amazing to trace the family history from the Three Lower Counties of PA south to South Carolina (Chester). I always felt there was a reason for going from Chester to Chester.

As a member of ABT, I am happy we are conserving this battlefield. My ancestor, Capt John "Jack" Ashby, leading the 3rd. Virginia Militia got wounded when he went to help an officer who got shot off his horse. Turned out to be Lafayette.
