My parents, married 61 years, passed away within months of each other. My Mum first- suddenly and unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. Dad could not find himself after she left and his heart failed 6 months later. I stayed by his bed for 27 hours-- it seemed he could not let go. I couldn't stand seeing him so agitated and distressed. I held his hand and said everything I could think of to comfort him. Finally I said "It's ok now Dad-- we are all fine-- Mum is waiting for you". He opened his deep blue eyes and they looked right into mine- and that's how he left, looking into my eyes. I saw the light go out and knew before they told me that he was gone. This song brings it all back and I can't see for tears.

This song hits home. I lost a few friends that were all in their 40s and some others that were elderly, including my elementary school principal who passed from it within the first month. My husband is now suffering with long covid and we lost his mother last year not long after she had covid (but not directly from it). I still worry every day that my mom or 99 yr old grandmother will catch it. I wish the US handled it better for us at the beginning.
