In 3D collisions, when we get the final speeds in the COM frame, can you explain how we can then get the final velociites in the COM frame from these speeds. And then how we can get the final velociites in the lab frame from this. I feel that in 3D collisions, the COM frame is useful to get the final SPEEDS in the COM frame but that's it, and that we are missing information to solve for the final velocities above. I feel this missing information is related to the geometry of the COM frame (how it lies wrt to a coordinate system) and the angle of scattering in that plane. Unless i'm totally mistaken. You might be able to offer advice on this. Thanks.
