I once watched a video of Shibenduji conducting a so called 'kriya initiation' abroad somewhere. It was overall a pathetic video to watch. Felt very sad to see Shibenduji trying to make a living by selling the fact that he happened to be born into the same family as the great yogi Sri Lahiri Mahasaya.

I heard that the place is opened only on the ocassion of GuruPornima. Is that true? I will be visiting Varanasi this month and would love to visit this place if it is open..Anybody has any idea about it? Any other place recommendation as well for me to visit in Varanasi?

Above video is about shibendu Lahiri ashram it is open every day at morning 10:30 am but another house is there near to this ashram which is a home of lahiry it will opened t yearly once at gurupurnima day

YES - travel to Mahadevamalai anytime... be patient once there. He always feeds masses for lunch, then puja at 2 PM.
