This is a really wonderful recording of here rarely heardpiece. Where can I find the instrumental parts for strings that you used in this recording? It’s really wonderful. I want to do it for our Christmas concert. It’s October 10 1140 Pacific time. Thank you for your help. Wonderful performance here! Bravi tutti!

One can only imagine what the churchgoers in Leipzig must have been thinking when they were confronted with the words of this cantata. Comparing most Christians to Pharisees and saying that even hypocrites can go to church (and so going to church does not a Christian make!) seems to show that Bach was not a man to fear confrontation and the motet fugue which sets off this cantata written in a sober style which reminds one of Palestrina somehow drives home both the sobriety and seriousness of the message further still. Incredible!

I just learned Sir Menuhin was a member of the Lili Boulanger Memorial Fund, so I quickly searched for recordings of him interpreting Lili's music. I am nowhere near disappointed.

I remember reading, about 35 years ago, advice to the effect that after one has listened to Bach's secular music, one should explore the cantatas and other sacred music to find even greater beauty. The duet illustrates that point fully - it transports the soul. Hoomeyow!!

I'm going to be playing this again at the upcoming renaissance festival. I put it on repeat on my phone and hide it and my bluetooth speaker in the pocket of my cloak. My costume is a re-imagined version of Death as the clearing of the old to make room for the new: that from death the soil is made fertile for new life to begin again. I call it the Spirit of the Harvest, and everything is fall and harvest themed.
