I use a Zebra Z grip click pen to make turned pens. Total basic cost to make my turned pen is less than$3. Have you tried this method?

Great job with this video. I did not get to meet you in person when I was out at Craft Supplies last week (Mike’s Signature class) but had wanted to tell you in person how much I appreciate your gentle teaching style. Thank you again!

Wow! I have never ever seen someone turn any bowls over 800 rpm’s. Seems very dangerous.

I like using the skew, in fact, I call my skew vice president. Spiro Askew to be precise. You older folks might get that joke.

Yet another excellent video from you Mike! I've been trying to use my various skew chisels more to learn how to use them better! it's a struggle! Do you have a video or recommend one/two that you feel are the best tutorials. I've watched a few KZbin videos but the 'quality' of what they are trying to get across is sometimes dubious at best.

This is probably the best video on using the skew. It's Master Turner Allan Batty: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZfIfXR-hriVp80

So, KISS. Make it out of one piece of wood. Leave the tip divot from the tailstock for your eyelet screw. Just sayin’… Add a finial to the bottom if you have to (which could be from same wood piece). Side holes from broad and thin drill bits which can be made while piece is on the lathe. Use a thin copper wire glued in for the perch. Period.

Biggest reason for doing a 2 piece ornament is it allows you to use multiple species of wood, and hollowing out the body and the top removes a significant amount of weight from the ornament.

I am going to have to try these. If I may ask a question, what drive center do you have mounted in your chuck? I have VM120 and wondering if it would work in it. Thanks in advance?

How long does each micromesh pad last? I ask because each set costs a whopping $17.50! I can’t afford to use one set per pen.
@CraftSuppliesUSA
@CraftSuppliesUSA 11 күн бұрын
If you wet sand with them and clean them occasionally, the pad set should last 300-400 pens.

For a better break, make 2 small cuts into each side in the wood with a band saw that will be eventually sanded away. The break will be much cleaner.

I bought a 5/8” Robust bowl gouge last year with a maple handle. I recently turned some Brazilian walnut that dulled every tool I have except for this Robust gouge. I’ve already decided that my next tool will be another Robust. I hope Craft Supplies USA starts carrying the handled versions.

These look like great tools as well as a very nice handle but when you’ve already got several of the same tools that have handles on them, it’s hard to justify spending $$ on a handle you don’t need. For someone starting out, this would be a fantastic way to go. I like this set up but it’ll probably be a while for me until my current tools get too short and I need new ones.

Turning tools you didn't take the time to turn handles? Then the short tang to make mounting yourself a chore. Hard pass just buy Robert Sorby or any other brand.
