Because it's easier to move the ped with your right hand, since most people are right-handed. Therefore, the pan bar with which you pan and tilt the camera is on the left side, and your right hand moves between the steering ring and the focus demand as required.

@@davba2 Makes sense but I notice other parts of the world do it differently. For example they do this in Australia, even when they're on sticks but in the US and elsewhere we use the strong hand for zoom and pan. 1:17 has this setup. It's a curious thing and to each their own but when doing handheld you're zooming right and focusing left so I would think you'd keep that pattern. It's funny, the places that drive on opposite sides of the road operate camera with opposite hands 🤷‍♂️

@@r3dl0g1cYes, we use the left hand for focus and iris and the right hand for zoom when operating a hand-held on the shoulder. However, if we're operating a hand-held off the shoulder, it's very different. Some will just use the carry handle with their right hand, and their left hand supports the weight of the camera, while others will use their right hand to support the camera while their left hand crosses under the viewfinder to operate both the focus and zoom.

@@diegot.freijeiro3821 they seemed to be glued and it’s damn near impossible to release it so I gave up on that tripod unfortunately bc the parts were too expensive to make mistakes
