If the exhaust ports comes out of the bottom of the heads, there's a good chance that is a Type 4 VW motor that was found in later vans and Porsche 914, so it can be a 1.7, 1.8, or 2.0 liter engine. Looking closer, as you remove it, its definitely a Type 4 engine because the oil cooler is on the rear left with a filter, and the reason your pulley looks funny is because it still has part of the old fan housing on it. Those have a much stronger aluminum case than regular VW's magnesium case and are great for stroke/bore modifications for more power. Might want to hold on to that. Glad you're okay and the shopvac saved you!

Thank you so much for the information if you would take a gas, what size do you think it is? Hopefully it’s around 1914 cc
@badaxelbrewski4 ай бұрын
@@dominiclucas1795 No idea without seeing numbers off the case. Stock, those were either 1.7, 1.8, or 2.0 liter. And if its been modified, you just have to take it apart and measure the pistons and rods. Regardless, its a good foundation for a powerful motor.

One of the nice things about the Ghia was that there were no panel lines for fenders, the body was all one piece. If you can make your wide body flares blend with the body so that its smooth, that would look best with original styling of the car.

To fix the rear camber, you'll need to raise the transmission and engine, especially if it's straight axle. I haven't messed with a cv transaxle to know if you have to do the same. I'm running 20's on the rear of my bug, with 1" lift, but a 2"would be better. Doing that will create a lot of work making the engine seal to the body again, exhaust may need reworking, and shift linkage can need work..... just the price you have to pay to get low 😊

That's the older model generator. Depending on what you want to do with the car, you might want to upgrade/convert to an alternator. Generators run only about 30amps and barely charge at idle. You're best off getting an 60amp or 75amp alternator, then you can run more electronics, gauges, lights, radio, etc.
@badaxelbrewski5 ай бұрын
Without pulling the motor and measuring the crank and pistons, there's no way of really knowing the CC of the engine. Stock motors were usually 1600cc for that year model. What someone may have done to modify it since is anybody's guess without measuring the internals.

Hey man, I split my ghia in a 1 bay garage. Made a cradle that rolled over the pan, so when I was working on the pan I just rolled the body outside and vise versa. Like 100 bucks in wood. I did a full custom build with a rotary engine. I'd be happy to help with any questions you run into, no need for you to relive my many mistakes!

If you end up, deciding to do bedliner on the inner rear floor area, finish sanding it real good and put a coat of epoxy on there you can buy at your local paint store. You can get a quart, which will be way more than enough. Let that dry according to your P-Sheet time, and then the bedliner over the top. You’ll be much happier with the results and the finish job will last for as long as you own that car 🙏🙏🙏

My very first comment on this post, dude get some safety glasses and a respirator even if you don’t want to spend a ton of money on them get them at Harbor freight and they’re cheap. You don’t wanna get a wire in your eye and everything off of there is, toxic at least wear a paper mask if not a full respirator

Others have mentioned the impact driver for stubborn screws. Also, that long skinny screw driver twists some as you use it, so it's working against you. Ideally, you'd be using a screwdriver about 4" long with a thick square shaft for something like that. Another nice thing about the square shaft is you can put a wrench on it to help.
