Got to agree. I’ve been daily driving my 2002 4L 5 spd since I bought it new. I always say it’s loud and rough riding and cold in the winter and hot in the summer but it’s fun!

My 2002 TJ X has been a great vehicle. Picked it up in 2005 so I have been driving it for 19 years. Lots of mods completed, lots more to go. My daily is my work vehicle, but my Jeep has been my personal vehicle for all of those years.

99 TJ Sport (146K) used as a toy, heavy duty 3.5" Krawler branded lift, 35x12.5 on 15's with a Dana 44 geared to 4.88 and lockers - tubed and armored with a heavy duty angled front bumper set-up with a Smittybilt 9500/synthetic, and plenty of recovery parts and medical rescue gear - under a hardtop because I'm an old man, lol - northern New Mexican high desert mountain trails, always seeking shiny placer patches and or old frontier home sites (late 1800 early 1900) to run detectors for bullion coins (with occasional creek side camping and fishing) - that's right, combining as many hobbies as we can under one toy lol

CJ5 has cool factor but, the 258 was a slug, late model 4.0 in its final form was the best inline 6 cylinder.

@pmrparts6 ай бұрын
I prefer my 1982 CJ5. As long as you have a tilt steering column they are great. The 258 makes more power than a 4.0. I also prefer the CJ5’s 10-inch shorter wheelbase which is great for tight turns.

I havnt had a back seat In mine in years, you should take it out to reduce weight, it's my opinion that you should treat the jeep like a motorcycle and reduce weight anywhere you can and that seat weighs like 60 pounds,
@thakoolkidTRE6 ай бұрын
Yeah I removed it like a year ago. I removed the tire in the back as well but recently put it back on. Yeah I agree with you about reducing weight.

I drive jeeps for over 35 years and I never had one fail on me. As long as you maintain them, good oil, zinc additive for the 4.0's and 4.2's and it will take care of you. I drive my TJ 4.0 sport for over 5 years now, it has 202K kilometers on it and I daily drive this Jeep. Never ever did it miss a beat. I often hear about Jeeps being unreliable, well . . . . this has nothing to do with Jeep and everything to do with the owner or previous owner. I hav a 3" OME lift, 33" tires and the infamous D35 in the rear but I never had problems with it. I drive it on the highway, forrest roads etc. It holds up fine. Just your basic off road stuff. I service my rig every 7.500~10.000 kilometers and that's the key to success I think.

I bought a 97’ in 2000 for $9000….it had 56,000 in it. I drove it and maintained it for another 14yrs. with no major problems. Crank sensor left me stranded one time, but that’s typical for them. 225,000 miles later I sold it and tried to upgrade to JK…..sorry I did. I wouldn’t have hesitated to get in it and drive 1,000mi. to somewhere in it anytime. It was that reliable. Nothing wrong with the JK but man, when you have a good one, hang onto it.
