Take it from a former Staff assistant the condescending air of superiority with which the staff treated me was insufferable, and the fact was diagnosis was only ever brought up in relationship to impediments and struggles chipped heavily at my self confidence/esteem, and there were plenty of times when one staff would tell me to do one thing, and another would yell at me for doing what I had just been told to do. They way in which they "delt" with difficult situations was also a pain.Well each one of us was held to different standards individually, they set it up to give the outward appearance that everybody was being held to equal expectations. because of this, whenever I was penalized for something, I never saw anybody else penalized for the same thing; giving me the impression that whatever offense was okay for anyone else to do, and was only bad when I did it. All of us just because the staff wanted to have their cake and eat it too in regards to the subject. Also, certain other issues that I've had even prior to arriving at Ramapo were barely touched upon, despite my frequently asking, or just shoved under the rug and ignored.

"Ramapo is an organization that works on half of children whose behaviors put them at risk of being alienated or marginalized". It's our job to change our behavior so people will accept us, even if our behavior is not in any way harmful. The SAE program if anything made me feel a lot more alienated when I was starting to adjust to adult society. As a more recent member of the SAE experience who had already received my Masters degree and has had some experience, I can tell you that things have only gotten worse. We are forced to give away our most basic rights. Staff members justify this by us being there to work, even though we don't get paid for our work and don't get any of the benefits that staff gets. Here we are reminded that our disabilities make us different and that we should not be treated like normal human beings. Most of the staff are not qualified to do there jobs and simply don't care. As an autistic person with a Masters degree, I feel very justified in making that judgement. They monitor our conversations, get angry if they here anything they don't like, silence us whenever we try to speak up, and somehow feel justified in criticizing us for not acting as adults. Most of these people are college students with no background in neurodiversity. Ironically, I am a neurodiverse person with a Masters degree and more life experience and I have been searching for years for a similar type of job, but have had a lot of trouble finding one. I care very deeply about making a positive change of the way people with disabilities get treated. This program did not even take my mental and physical health into consideration. I was denied medication at the time I needed it, ignored when I was going through extreme depression, and forced to go to activities when I needed time to take care of myself. @qaboos4, thank you for being the first one to respond to this video with the truth. I apologize to all SAE members for being too much of a coward to speak up in person. The truth needs to be spread. I am very interested in learning who you are in real life, @qaboos4. I think we would have a lot to talk about.
