Gives me Dora the Explorer vibes. Season 9, or at least a double-length episode, based on TTO plz!

Dude thank you so much for doing this. I too, have so many fond memories of playing this on Nintendo Gamecube when I was a kid. Backyard Baseball and Football were two games that never got boring :) Question. So how's everything coming along? Any possible timeframe? N thanks again man. I, we, really appreciate it. You're the Bees Knees :)

This is even cooler to watch honestly, I guess just because I consider this the last of the "classic" Backyard Sports games (it's the final one to use the original menu style without the constantly-present navbar and more cartoonish art style). Once again, can't wait to be able to play this! I'm kinda curious, I assumed the developers didn't really bother to implement any online functionality in ScummVM whatsoever. Did you have to basically do this all from scratch?
@ToonLittleCat
@ToonLittleCat 3 жыл бұрын
Well, there is some code implemented to support Moonbase Commander's online play by the ScummVM devs themselves, but then they've stopped to focus on other engines. Turns out that the DirectPlay (in-game communication) code for the two games (plus Football 2002's LAN play) uses the same opcodes that Moonbase uses, so implementing them is a bit simpler and since the code is open-source, I doubt that they'll mind (credit will be given just in case). But all the other stuff (logins, lobbies, challenging other players 'n such) is my own work. Again, the code of this ScummVM fork will be open-sourced to comply with the GPLv2 license.

This absolutely blows my mind. I think it's incredible you were able to pull this off. I never thought I would be able to properly see online mode, I just figured interest in the game was too low for anyone to properly attempt reverse engineering the code. I am thoroughly impressed at your work, and I can't tell you how excited I am to potentially be able to play this game online. Fantastic work! It also still surprises me to this day that Humongous actually dabbled in online play, as early as 1999. You didn't hear about that from anyone except the big-name studios back then, and I can imagine the infrastructure was a lot more expensive then than it is now (which I guess makes it completely unsurprising they threw their towel in the ring after only doing it on two games). This also is the only time the SCUMM-based Baseball games were ever multiplayer compatible, which means you may have saved the only possible way to play classic Backyard Baseball with a friend. Hats off to you!

That's so cool! I didn't have Internet until the servers were down so I never got to experience online Backyard Baseball or Football.

I miss the old days where this “eVERY cOpY IS PErsoNALIZED!!!1!1!” garbage didn’t exist and people had fun showing off cool hacks of the game and seemed an innocent game. Good times...
