As someone who lived in Houston for 20 years, but who now lives in Denver (2 years) one of the pros of Houston is food. Houston food scene beats Denver's hands down. Even the selection in the grocery store has more options. While Houston does not have the mountain scenery as Denver does. It is located near the beach (even though TX beaches aren't as pretty as say California) but it's still breathtaking in its own way. Denver scenery is beautiful everywhere you turn you see something awing, even with altitude sickness the quality of air is better than Houston mainly because Houston is a refinery town. Both cities holds a special place in my heart as I consider both home. I just felt that I would give my opinion as someone who actually lived in both cities. Compared to one who only lived in one but visited the other for two weeks and didn't like it.

We are contemplating a move and starting to research areas. We'll actually be in town soon for a visit. We are coming from Houston (city proper), so we're looking for homes with character, beautiful outdoors, good schools, and diversity. Any recommendations on Longmont neighborhoods to drive through and experience while we're there?

Wonderful! If you're looking in Longmont, there are a ton of neighborhoods, but I'd recommend looking towards the far sides if you're interested in being close to the outdoors. The western and southwestern sides of Longmont are closer to the open areas of Boulder County so neighborhoods like McIntosh Lake or Somerset Meadows can be great (the latter is pricier)! On the east side, I'd say take a look at Fox Hill or Wolf Creek. But also if you're looking in the greater Boulder area, there are great homes in suburbs like Erie and Broomfield to the south that are closer in general home price to Longmont. If you are going into the mountains during ski season - the back way is _the_ way to go. Last time I tried I-70, It took me 4 hours to reach Loveland Ski Area - and I left the Springs at 5am. Never again. Take the back way. I've never thought Colorado Springs was isolated. It's a solid B city - basically has everything anyone could need and the A city (Denver) is a short drive away without being annexed into the metro area. To me, that's a huge plus. We also have the best city park in the country (Garden of the Gods).

Appreciate the comment! Clearly the back way is the way to go! Loveland Ski Area is one of my favorite spots! Love the perspective, really the point was to compare how connected everything feels in Denver and the surrounding suburbs than CO Springs. Sometimes cons for some can be pros for others! And yes, I have to admit Garden of the Gods is unbelievable!

There are some in Erie! Mostly single-family properties; however, they are building quite a few townhomes especially towards the center of town! But there are also locations like Longmont and Broomfield that have great options too! All depends on what you’re looking for 😁
