This La Scala 0rchesteavrecord an Italian imported master. Altho an ACOUSTIC record it show intrumental tone and separation of intrument voices that 3rican records of 30s & 40s often lacked.

This ACCOUSTIC record of early 2Os is a real step up from the I9I7 Boston Symphony / Karl Muck version. In the ACCOUSTIC period of early 20s Victor made good recordings of large Orchestra FROM CAMDEN N.J. X-CHURCH, which also venue for band, Broadway show and choral recordings. (Like 1929.Stainer CRUCIFIXION Lawrence Tibbet & Richard Crooks MM#29 and comple Operas) After 1928 merger with RCA and decline of recording industry (like loss of Lederkranz hall and not doing field recordings much. RCA used Radio City studios alot. Studio 8-H (still used for TV shows like Saterday Night Live) was used by NBC Orchestra Toscanini, and most of his recordings 78era show terrible studio accoustics. In particular alot show a "High School Gym" "Tile Bathroom" shrill tone to violins, and weak base. There is also odd notes that blare from accoustics. Since mid 50s two changes Record industry financial revival saw Victor division build several separate studios in NYC. TWO 8H was feadnef, and TV production switched to "body mics" and individual instrument pickups. Also much of Toscanini output reissued with "doctoring" to eliminate some of defects.

VICTOR had better sound. Compare to Victor 1927 Hayden "Clock" symphony. ( Volume on this KZbin too low)

The volume on this you.tibr is too low. That said, you can hear alot of fine details. Compared to even 5 years before😊this electric record on the orthophonic machine would have amazed. Toscanini recording with Brunswick lasted less than a uear, otherwise his entire career was with Victor and its affiliated foreign labels and NNC radio network

Thank you for the excellent transfer. However, your sides are backwards. You have B, then A--which means, mvt. 3-4, then 1-2.

As noted, too many of Toscaninis recordins were made in horrible studios ny RCA Victor. Oddly enough this recording not only outshines Victors 1917 of Karl Muck with the Boston Symphony Orcestra, but is vastly superior to yhe Kousivitsky Boston Symphony Orchestra electric of 1940 whose finale os a.blur of brass unlike this recording where individual instrmentsl lines on last minute can be heard with azing seperation and clarity for a monoral, let alone 100+ year old ACOUSTIC played on a vintacge talking macine

Technically accomplished but using a minimum of vibrato. Ysaÿe was possibly the most celebrated violinist of the 19th century.
