Is it difficult to use the Terra?
@Organismo_music23 күн бұрын
it can be sometimes, it depends on how complicated is the harmony you want to play, or how gradual you want the transitions to be. Imagine it like a piano, it is very easy to make a sound, but to play a complicated composition you need to study a little 😄. It is VERY easy if you want to do ambient tho; it’s like the easiest synth for that in my opinion.

Does the Soma Terra loop on its own or is it best paired with the Cosmos?
@Organismo_music23 күн бұрын
Terra does not have a looper built in; you can use the delay fx to build some short repetitions that can sound as a loop but if you want a real looper you have to use an external device. Cosmos is a strange looper itself, it does not loop in the traditional way, but that’s why I like it.

@@Organismo_music approfitto per chiederti, è possibile usare un sequencer esterno per controllare Terra? Non mi è molto chiaro da internet
@Organismo_musicАй бұрын

I really enjoyed watching this experimental video. The raw, unedited performance... adds a genuine and engaging touch. The way you’ve utilized the Soma Cosmos and Pulsar channels... is fascinating. Seeing them recorded separately... hints at exciting possibilities for future tracks. The mix you’ve achieved... despite the lack of a physical mixer... still sounds impressive. It’s clear you’re pushing creative boundaries and exploring new techniques. Looking forward to hearing more as you continue to develop these ideas!

Thank you! I really try to maintain the performative aspect in my videos (for better or for worse), because I believe that one of the strengths of Somasynths instruments is that they have to be played in every way. Even Cosmos, although it is an instrument that evolves spontaneously, needs to be played. obviously transitions are the most difficult things to achieve in real time, accustomed as I am to music produced in the studio (automations, mixes, etc.) I realize that managing certain transformations with just two hands becomes complicated.

Great, one of my favourites of yours i think, you're really mastering the illuminator! It adds a lot, i love the flashes to white light, it's like it's a film with different takes, night then suddenly day, with these colour interludes in between. Great terra playing, great textures with the left hand. What algorithm is that, the FM poly?
@Organismo_music2 ай бұрын
I’m trying to build “organismic lights” ad well (ad Soma teaches us 😆), I’ll have to find a better solution than pulsar-23 when it comes to translate midi messages into cv. The Terra’s algorithm is number 8 of polyphonics (3 leds lit in the bottom row), synthesis modulated by noise

First of all, I have to thank the KZbin algorithm for suggesting your channel to me, as I find it really interesting. I love it! More and more, I feel drawn to the concept of SOMA and, in general, to the idea of experimenting as a creative process. I have the Lyra, Cosmos, and Ether, and I've been holding off on buying the Pulsar for months because my use won’t be for making 'techno' with it, but rather for ambient or experimental music. What do you think?
@Organismo_music2 ай бұрын
thank you! Soma for me has been the start of my journey into ambient and electronic music. I love their concept of "organismic music" and the fact that you have to touch their instruments to play, and not just push some buttons 😆. I use pulsar for making ambient too, you don't necessary have to be aggressive with it. It just requires a lot of practice and experiments.

Awesome. Have you only recently got the Cosmos? I have the Terra and the Pulsar 23, and I am thinking that maybe the cosmos will open them up as more of a hardware jam setup (as opposed to recording parts into a DAW which I mainly do now). I suppose I'm torn between Cosmos and a more traditional, controllable looper, but control isn't really the Soma vibe, is it. I'm interested in your experience with the Cosmos.
@Organismo_music2 ай бұрын
I had already tried Cosmos in the past and was surprised by the sound it produced, but I wasn't very happy with the contribution it made to my setup at the time. I bough it two weeks ago and now that I'm 90% switched to Soma instruments (only saving one keyboard that I use for felt pianos), I find that Cosmos is perfectly in line with what you can expect from using Somasynths. Like every Soma instrument, the choice requires a compromise between control and chaos; but by studying and experimenting I have always found a way to use these instruments in a way that reflects my ideas of sound and music. I find it particularly nice to try to make these instruments sound not in the way you "expect from Somasynths" but "in the way you don't expect", because at the beginning I too thought I had to "bend" to the ways of use expressed in the manuals ; I then realized that Soma's philosophy can be adapted to your own way of playing. perhaps this is the essence of the "organismic" music that Vladimir seeks to export I have yet to explore the cosmos rhythmic firmware well; let's say that from a workflow point of view, if you use it as a looper, it guides the entire cyclical aspect of the performance and needs to be followed in its evolutions, otherwise you risk doing things that are too disconnected.
@matthewtunnicliffe2012 ай бұрын
I'm really starting to get into the Cosmos. I wasn't sure at first but being able to swap firmware enables you to access a more traditional style looper besides the proper madness. I find it works especially well with my Enner.
@Organismo_music2 ай бұрын
@@matthewtunnicliffe201 Yeah you just have to get used to that kind of looping style. For many years we had worked with traditional looper with infinite possibility for synchronization, and so we are used to think in a more "quantized" way. I find Cosmos to be very close to the "classical music" way of thinking about tempo in general, it frees you from metronome bound, but lead to more unpredictable behaviors that you have to accept.

I'm using "ILLUMINATOR", a device from Somasynths that let's you control 12v led strips (or any other 12v device) via CV signals. Here I have hooked up illuminator to pulsar-23 channel's envelopes so that every time a sound is triggered on pulsar, a led strip is powered on and then off, following envelopes. on the left-bottom corner of pulsar you can see the 4 attenuators that I have used to control the volume of light of each colored led. Thank you for your comment 🙏!
