Hi there, I have just had a hip arthroscopy and a labrum tear repair, the tear was clamped during surgery, a couple of days after I over extended the joint and felt a ‘tear’ I’m sure I’ve torn the repair but I have spoken to my surgeon about it and he says I will not have done and they’re not going to do another mri, do you think I could have torn it? (I understand it’s pretty difficult for you to answer, just looking for an opinion)

@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness28 күн бұрын
Hello, although dry needling can't directly help with irritation of the fat pad that is behind the knee, as seen in knee impingement syndrome, there are ways to use Dry Needling to decrease quadricep tone to decrease stress in the area. I hope that is helpful!

This is a very weak description of occupational therapy. I can only assume you’ve never practiced in the same building as an occupational therapist. If you have you clearly do not pay attention to what they actually do. Occupational therapist work with people to facilitate participation and independence in meaningful activities such as bathing, dressing, grocery shopping, and driving. They address far more than fine motor coordination as daily activities require safe mobility, fine motor coordination, gross motor coordination, balance, endurance, adequate cognition, etc. They may work towards restoring those functions or adapting the activity of environment to facilitate participation and independence.

Hi Katie, thank you for your response. This video was only meant to give a very small glimpse at the differences between PT and OT, not to demonstrate everything that PTs and OTs do, as we left out a lot that PT's do as well.

Thank you so much. My surgeon is not answering my questions or communicating with me. I’m having to learn everything online. He ordered physical therapy for me at 4 weeks post op but wants me to stay in the hard collar for 6 weeks so the physical therapist is very limited in what we can do until the collar comes off. It’s been very frustrating and scary. I had a 2 level ACDF and I’m 5 weeks post op today. I still have a lot of neck pain and have no idea if this is normal or not. Your video was very helpful to me. Thank you so much

Do you recommend for Bell’s palsy treatment?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. Dry needling is not typically recommended for Bell’s palsy, as this condition involves facial nerves rather than muscles. Treatments for Bell’s palsy usually focus on medications, physical therapy, and sometimes electrical stimulation. It’s best to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the most appropriate treatment for Bell’s palsy.

Thank you for your question. It’s important to follow your surgeon’s specific recommendations regarding driving after ACDF surgery. Thank you for your comment. Dry needling and acupuncture do share some similarities, particularly in the use of needles. However, they have different philosophies and methodologies. Dry needling focuses on targeting trigger points in muscles, while acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and involves meridians and energy flow. Both can be effective in their own ways.

You can also use a toothpick or sharp tipped object but not breaking the skin. On the trigger point. Or between the pain and the brain. Just gently tap around the point or the painful Area. Again you do not break or scratch the skin. Try it and see if it works for you. Good luck

How long does it take to become a licensed PT in the United States?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. In the United States, becoming a licensed physical therapist typically takes about 7 years. This includes earning a bachelor’s degree (about 4 years) followed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree (about 3 years). After completing the DPT program, you must pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) to become licensed.

There are many different courses all over the US. Courses typically vary based on technique and are usually associated with whoever started the course. There are also different courses created around state requirements, usually based on the hours of education needed to perform Dry Needling in your state-it varies by profession and state practice acts. Myopain Seminars and Integrative Dry Needling are two different "schools" that teach and have a certification in Dry Needling.

Also related is the epidemic of hypothyroidism that doctors have been taught since the seventies to diagnose by the blood test (TSH) instead of the patient's symptoms and family history and to treat with synthetic T4 which does nothing for most people but makes the blood test look good instead of old-fashioned, inexpensive desiccated thyroid hormone (glandular). Hypothyroidism, Type 2-THE EPIDEMIC, Mark Starr, MD
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your perspective and additional information. Hypothyroidism is indeed a complex condition, and it’s important for individuals to discuss their symptoms and treatment options thoroughly with their healthcare providers. Understanding both modern and traditional approaches can help in managing the condition effectively.
@cassandraseven34782 ай бұрын
IF you read Dr. Starr's book you will know why "discussing" it with your HCP is a futile endeavor. The Foreword is written by a dentist which makes the futility clear. A small percentage of physicians know how to treat Hypo.... Please explain your perspective of "modern" and "traditional".
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness2 ай бұрын
@@cassandraseven3478 Thank you for your follow-up. When I mention “modern” approaches, I refer to conventional medical treatments, such as synthetic thyroid hormones like levothyroxine, typically based on standardized testing and guidelines. “Traditional” approaches can include methods like desiccated thyroid hormone and other alternative therapies that some patients find beneficial. It’s important for individuals to explore different options and see what works best for them, ideally with a healthcare provider who is knowledgeable and open to various treatment methods. Your input highlights the need for more physicians to be well-versed in diverse treatment approaches. I don't know much about Dr. Starrs book but I am always interested in a variety of approaches.
@cassandraseven34782 ай бұрын
@@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness Thank you. By all means read Dr. Starr's book, anyone who reads it will know more about thyroid than the average allopath. Oil Baron John D Rockefeller commissioned the Flexner Report early in the 20th C then set about making petrochemicals the only approved method of disease care.; that's when traditional medicine became conventional medicine. In 2000 an article in JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) : US Healthcare Third Leading Cause of Death. Broken down, the chief category was correctly prescribed pharmaceuticals. Once again, the synthetic thyroid hormones do nothing for most people but make the blood test look good. The person remains an untreated hypothyroid with symptoms still in place. The uneducated doctor can then say that means your symptoms were not caused by hypothyroidism but we have plenty of pharmaceuticals to manage them for the rest of your life.

Getting surgery soon. I am 15, in good shape, and have a small hip labrum tear that I’ve been dealing with for over a year. Could you estimate my time for recovery after surgery?
@EWphysicaltherapyandwellness6 ай бұрын
Hey Jordan, Thanks for watching our video. Recovery after a hip labrum at your age has a lot of factors. At age 15, and with a small tear, I would want to try as much conservative treatment as I could because you may still have some growing to do. If you were to have surgery, I would want to know your goals to be able to set realistic timelines. 12-16 weeks is usually a realistic timeline, dependent on any other complications, but in order to get back to high level sports at 100% you are looking at 16-20+ weeks.
