How exciting! You really need a new kitchen. I don't need a new kitchen just cabinets. Will start getting quotes this summer after I RETIRE! They are falling apart.

What about sentimental items? What if we feel emotional attachment to each clothing item?

I commented earlier about blankets bwtn box spring and mattress. My mother in law bought very expensive twin decorative blankets. I use them as a bed skirt. They do over lap in the middle but you dont notice and who sees my bedroom beside me?

I really appreciate (at 4:00) that you are sharing about the overwhelm and anxiety of the renovation. A big project like that takes a lot of time (9:46). These feelings are very relatable! 💓

Extra blankets? I took off the top mattress and layed a few blankets on top of the box spring. I also use one blanket folded a few times to slightly elevate our heads. This frees up closet space. You never know when you will need an extra blanket such as power outage in winter time. Also…if you switch spring to winter bedding this is still a good way to keep the extras.

Great video! Did I see you peel and cut up bananas and put them in the fridge? If so, do they stay better or what? Very curious and never thought of that. Mine just go bad so quickly on the counter. 😮

I can relate to the feeling stressed or anxious. We have spent the last six years upgrading our 2002 home (we bought in 2019) into a more 2024 style home. We (and yes, husband did most of it and I clean up) have done the two bathrooms over, the kitchen and laundry room (although we had the all the new cabinetry installed and all the new windows installed), took out the old flooring and laid tile down instead (we are in our 70's). We wrapped it up with having a new roof put on and the exterior of the house painted. At our age, some projects are just too big for us to do, but building was our industry and so it's been a lifetime of doing "projects". I love watching all the changes you and Grant have made and will make in the future. It will get done and, in the meantime, don't worry about it. You know it will all come back together. I've also commented before, how much I love your back yard makeover. It is so peaceful looking to me. I can't wait to see the kitchen unfold!

I have been gradually getting rid of all my plastic utensils, food storage containers & cutting boards. Going back to the way we were in the 50’s. Also no more non-stick cookware. I said many years ago that I thought plastic were probably causing the uptake in cancer cases. I’m pretty sure I was right.

@shannontorrens1 2 күн бұрын
The utensils and pans were in pretty bad condition with lots of scratches on the pans and the utensils were even worse. I was already going to replace those since parts of the plastic were missing and they kept getting stuck open. So I threw them away. Unfortunately not everything can be reused.

Making meals from scratch and not eating out takes some kitchen gear. I agree that uou don't need the cupcake plastic storage container but another mom might. It takes some stuff to live and eat healthfully.

I agree for my own home. I'm not a minimalist and yet i don't have clutter. I have very minimal surface decor. What I do have means something to me and I really like it. There are some glass items that I still haven't decluttered but i have stored in a compact but still easy way to get to bin. Our homes should be comfortable refuges from the world. Uncomfortable furniture, too much empty space and no personalization doesn't make for a place that can do for us what being home should.

It's so great to see you two going through your crafting and sewing bins... I have a large box of ribbons, from my Mom. I noticed how the bridal shower ribbons matched your shirt. Somebody will be so happy to have your throwaways/giveaways ~ So, last year, my son & I put Mom & Dad's whole record album collection onto Spotify. It's awesome, and always available at a click to listen to. The album covers are on Spotify also. We took pictures of the sleeves and back of the albums. You might be able to scan the sleeves, backs, and other attachments. Senior centers and extended care in hospitals love puzzles and certain crafts. Felt is such a great kid's crafting fabric. You could roll that hat up to go camping. Your camping bins must be full! Wow, you two are excellent artists! Those are probably keepers for your archives! Do you have a portfolio folder/envelope? The part about putting something over your art in that frame is great! I'm inspired to declutter my storage unit which is mostly crafts, sewing, and books...many of them are Mom's that she thinks I'd love to read. She's a full-on bookworm. You two rocked it today, that's a huge bin full of stuff to go, and three little empty ones to boot! Open space is the place! I love the whole Swedish Death Cleaning thing! It makes so much sense! Mom had three of us kids, after we moved out and had families of our own, and they were ready to move out of our family home, she had give-aways every year on her kitchen table and in the living room. My brother sent his wife to choose things for their house and my sister and I would choose for ours. It was a great way to do the Swedish Death Cleaning thing. You two have this dialed!! Thank you for sharing with us as an inspiration!

I can relate to your DH's comment: I am not a minimalist either. 🙂 I just like the decluttered look when I find new places to hide the stuff I wanna keep. It seems I never have enough storage space, but my DH's comment is to "just get rid of it all.". 🤣 I really like your videos and am trying to watch all of them. You use the common sense solutions that I like too. Thank you.

So, when you say you decluttered something, what did you do with the item(s)? I heard “donate to a friend” and “donate to an animal shelter.” I figure you throw out the broken (and/or really ugly) stuff. But what about the other stuff?
@shannontorrens1
@shannontorrens1 2 күн бұрын
It just depends on the item. Somethings are trash, those get thrown out. Somethings can get recycled. Some can get donated (if in good condition). If I know someone can use something I will ask if they want it. It's just a call you have to make. =)
