Shouldn't they have then turned the score round about and sung it the other way?

My late father, N.B. Winkless, Jr. wrote that jingle, and I agree -- it's the best there ever was. He of course was influenced heavily by "Fugue For Tinhorns" from Guys and Dolls, where they too do a fabulous three-part harmony like that.

wow and more wow! Thanks for the comment and history lesson. All we knew was the name of the jingle house. Did he write anything else that we'd know about?

Thanks all of you who keep finding this. A little known tidbit: We contacted Kellogg's to get permission when we recorded our CD. Kellogg's intellectual property lawyer wrote back they were unable to because they didn't own the copyright - at that time period (maybe now too), "jingle houses" owned their work. I replied "But when I asked for the music when I was a teenager, you [Kellogg's] sent me the lead sheet used by the studio singers. And the bottom of the sheet, below 'Dick Marx Agency', says "Copyright Kellogg's". "Ah, if you send me a copy of what you got from us back then, we can give you permission." Kellogg's had forgotten they owned the music!

Are you sure that is right? I realize the words are by Sol Weber, but the lyrics shown on wikipedia for k559a are much different! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_du_eselhafter_Peierl

Yep. k559a is the right song, but those lyrics are way different than the original! LOL

@@RoundsGalore No problem. :) It's not only a pretty piece, but it is "very Mozart". Given that he would include such cadences and resolutions in a piece written for a festive occasion like drinking seems to say a lot about Mozart's intentions when he uses similar structures in other works. Thank you for sharing! :)
@RoundsGalore4 жыл бұрын
@@williamkidwell1504 Nicely put. Like all of Mozart, the musicality is astounding. However, l suggest you look at a translation of the original words: they have nothing to do with drinking, but are a (friendly?) scatological attack on other composers/impresarios. Wikiped quotes "Mozart clearly relished the incongruity resulting from ribald verse set as a canon, traditionally regarded as the most learned of all compositional techniques."
@RoundsGalore4 жыл бұрын
PS to your later "Are you sure that's right?" The notes are the same as k559a. Wiki says it's possibly the most performed of Mozart's rounds and are often performed in bowdlerized form. Many audiences wouldn't like hearing a strict translation of the original's kiss my ass!
