I am a finnish carpenter, and I would much prefer to do the backing. Because at least then I know it's right.. I've been screwed so many times by guys that don't install millwork..

Electricians in Asia are also masons/carpenters. They cut access holes to fix or install wiring, then they patch the holes and "finish" the walls/floors.

As a someone starting to become a framer I want to be a framer that every other tradie likes especially dry wallers and finish carpenters, I don’t want to do finishing because of it’s tediousness and the annoyances when something isn’t right but still making it work. How would I know as a framer where the best places for backing and reinforcing things like where a mirror will be and the best method of backing

I don't necessarily believe in the compound cut. I generally cut to the longest of the long point on the base, cut to 45.5, and pre assemble as much as possible. I figure if theres slight gap on top of the base to the cornerbead it will get caulked. Can't argue with your results

good video, you should do a direct side by side comparison of the dewalt vs sawstop compact, there aren't any great videos. I had a dewalt and I think it's a much better saw and stand, just like you were saying about the riving knife release. The little things about the dewalt are better and I find the stand and blade/dust guard much better on the dewalt but chose the sawstop for safety.

People are getting bent out of shape because it’s not efficient. The way building materials are setup you don’t need to be that accurate you have 1 3/4 of play for your screws when hanging your drywall plywood on the exterior. You should be able to use a skill saw to rip blocking it doesn’t need the precision of a track saw. Your work looks very clean though good job 👍🏼

Hi, how do you get the doors to open without binding on the adjacent slats?
@topnotchfinishing
@topnotchfinishing 16 күн бұрын
Concealed hinges. Also the slat must fit into a “gap”. So your space between slats needs to be the same or a hair bigger than the thickness of a slat

Years ago i was doing a laminate floor job, at one point in the job i really needed to run the planks with the tongues facing opposite direction, so i basically ripped two planks and glued then together with CA glue with tongues facing in opposite directions, i let it set for a while and tired to break the joint , it was nearly impossible to tear them apart, major effort, and when i managed to get them apart the fibres were tore to pieces, so after my test i made up a new piece and installed it, been using ca glue on mdf since then with no problems. I recently did another job at that same house and those two pieces of flooring are still bonded together after being walked on for years.

so im confused. how do you follow the scribe line if your using a table saw. also if there is a hump say in the middle of the wall in the floor, how do you scribe it w/o placing above the the hump, level it, tack it, scribe it. seems like alot of work, especially if 1/4 round is going down. bc who doesnt put 1/4 round down on hard floors?
@topnotchfinishing
@topnotchfinishing Ай бұрын
We scribe so there is no shoe moulding. Tack the entire room so all pieces are the same height in the corners. Scribe it. Cut the line off. Sits perfect on the floor. Table saw at a bevel, thin Kerf blade has some flex
