When I was in the US Army, 1988-1996, not a single soldier ever once talked back or not quickly obey a direct order. In our unit, this troubled lad would have been in the brig more quickly and then kicked out of the service. What I'm seeing here is way to lenient. If a soldier acted like that to the Instructor and nothing happened, we would have taken care of the problem after lights out.
