Such a fantastic performance, the vibe of this song never ceases to amaze and that outro, especially live, is perfection. Pajo’s bass does Carlos’ studio version justice, smooth as can be. The kind of forgotten album by many, self-titled on the surface admittedly doesn’t exactly draw one in entirely…but after multiple listens straight through there’s an underlying and subtle genius that emerges. I relate my experience as sort of an epiphany, around the 4th or 5th play through of the album, and truly was overwhelmed at the true magic they achieved on this album and I rank it almost on par with TOTBL.

I have a trauma and it is hard to go to the dentist and to other medical operations. Last time I listened Interpol and it was at the time of this song, while I was living through the trauma trigger counting seconds for it to end, that I started crying and thanked the Universe for giving me this band. Their music just follows me to hard places and trancends them for me to cope there. I am so grateful. Thank you for holding me dear.

My impression is that Paul & Carlos are both douches, and thus couldn't stand each other. It's the stand-off of a certain type of douche, "endemic" to bands, in which they both puff up their feathers and ruffle each other in a vie for dominance. You can at least say of Paul & Carlos that they were essential to the sound in ways that S&D weren't. Look how the music fell off after Carlos left. Bros needed each other but each wanted to be top dog. You see it all the time...
