The term “Knee wall” was coined by builders over 100 years ago. They describe an outside wall projection that rises about 18” inches (about the height of a man’s knee) above the floor in the attic in balloon frame construction. The term knee wall was adapted to describe short partition walls in the attic of modern construction. The knee wall in a balloon frame building may or may not be concealed by a short partition wall (approximately 36” inches in height). If you only open the short partition wall (referred to as a knee wall) and forget to check the balloon framing on the outside wall you will miss the open chase and the fire will spread. Consider a distinction in exterior operations. Define offensive exterior attacks and defensive exterior attacks. In an offensive exterior attack, attack lines may be managed directly below windows with entrainment into and above roof lines by manned attack lines. In a defensive exterior attack, all lines and apparatus must be 1 1/2 times the distance from the structures height to protect from structural failures and collapse. Don’t simply lump all exterior attacks as defensive. This blurs the lines for operational distances.

So glad I just found this channel. I'm also glad he's teaching the importance of treating each fire like it's the worst one ever in someone's career.

Perhaps the backstretch (fire to hydrant) would alleviate or minimize the chances of the Engine blocking out the Ladder Company…? By estimating your stretch, removing requisite number of lengths and driving to the hydrant you’ll maximize your staffing by having the ECC at the hydrant making connections, the apparatus taking care of deploying some of the lengths and the Engine is out of the way. The Ladder Company should ideally approach from the same direction as this Engine. If approaching from the opposite direction the LCC must wait short of the hydrant until the Engine gets to it before proceeding to the proper position to maximize their coverage of the fire building.
Hey Guys, For the firefighters in Paris… first of all, they are all part of the military, they are not civilian and yes, the physical standards are high. What they do in the morning is called “the plank”. They have to, while wearing their their bunker gear with helmet, do a “muscle up” on a plank. You can youtube it… it is pretty neat.

*Zillow tip great and all but a lot of places don’t offer interior pics, sometimes plots wrong address and for those houses that are off set back in woods can’t even get a exterior look *the exterior clues also not only seeing toys but even looking at the cars some people put the family figures on back windshield and sometimes with pets too

With this much smoke productivity and fire on first floor with extension to 2nd and unsure if ballon frame or structural pathways for fire spreading. When they entered for interior attack were they successful with interior suppression or were evacuation tones prompted?

Would we as the fire service be better served by following LCE; Locate the fire, Confine the fire/Communicate the location of the fire (this is where the Ladder Company starts their primary search) and Extinguish? By penetrating to the fire Locating it and Confining it would that give us the best chance of surviving the fireground?
@lambis14813 күн бұрын
100%. Both fire attack and search should be accomplished simultaneously. Problems begin to subside when fire is extinguished.

Impressive content, Nick Martin - Combat Ready Fire Training. Looking forward to seeing your next upload from you. I tapped the thumbs up icon on your video. Keep up the excellent work. Your insights on victim profiling and the importance of using external clues during a search were particularly enlightening. How do you incorporate real-time feedback from your team to adjust search strategies effectively in varying scenarios?
@lambis14813 күн бұрын
We do “10 second huddles” inside of the structure and that’s just talking mask to mask if we have anything to relay. But most importantly, this all comes down to training and making sure you’re on the same page and therefore eliminating the need to talk most of the time. Happy to hear you enjoyed it

Zillow is interesting. Most houses are immediately renovated if they were dated so could create a bad situation. Just another tool in the tool box to consider.
@lambis14813 күн бұрын
You’re right about that, just another tool in the toolbox. Obviously things change interior, especially with the homes being sold. But fortunately unless it is a really extensive renovation, the layout and depths should hold true.

Nice deployment. Just one thing you might want to consider (unless you already did). Try adding Class A wetting agent to your water. The surfactant in the wetting agent lowers the surface tension of water so it penetrates deeper into to the seat of burning materials. This reduces smoke production at the source which in turn reduces smoke inhalation. Per NFPA stats, smoke inhalation is the number one cause of death in a fire. My dad was a firefighter. I had a firefighting game on the Wii. I was pissed off to high hell (wasn't even 10y/o...maybe 8) because I spent 20 minutes shooting water into a house and the fire didn't leave. Then he showed me how and why, and I realized then and there that it's more than just shooting water. Yall have my utmost respect

Chief Martin, this is not the first time that I have looked at your incident command board. A few of us in our county have made our own, and to various levels of detail; mine is more towards emergency management but easily used on a fire scene. Your board is excellent, and easily adaptable to my needs, even if I ordered without any customization; but I am thinking of one being customized to my needs. Great job Chief.

On the live show I asked about changing a specification of a truck that is ordered but hasn’t been built yet and is 1 year from being built. Can you change the specification without being charged for the change?
@tylerhall8794Ай бұрын
I believe it depends on manufacturer. Some you change it at no cost as long as you haven’t done your pre-build yet. Some as soon as you order it, there’s a change order cost for anything after the order

The SOG style of fire ground operations management is very beneficial for the purposes that you iterated. However in our fire district we may have up to 5 to 8 mutual aid partners assisting with water shuttle and fire attack operations. We each have may have different SOGs. Some are SOG driven some are not. In this case we're pretty much bound to the IC driven fire ground command model because of these inconsistencies between our mutual aid partners and our own agency. Your thoughts?

Have you tried wearing the box light under the scba straps? Im sure your light has a quick release buckle to remove it if neccessary. The reason I wear my light under the scba is so in case I need to perform a quick release manuever with the scba the light remains on my body. Works for me. To each his own. I do like the tips with the camera. Im going to try it out for a while. Thanks.
