Tried doing it all on my own just today. I assumed just doing vertical would be enough, but becouse of how weird the daylight sensor tracks the sun i needed something else, and it appears the offered solution is to do horizontal too. So weird... Why was this feature designed this way?
@BigfootMSR7 күн бұрын
I wasn't really around when the solar tracking came to be, but It makes sense. The sun does not always pass directly overhead, so some sort of dual axis tracking would be required to maximize the power generation. It did used to pass directly over head 90 degrees on the moon before the solar orbit updates, and mars you could get away with single axis tracking with a bit of a loss. Since, the update though, its better to just use dual axis, and it doesn't really require that much more resources over single axis. The latitude and longitude on the planet in each play through is supposed to be randomized now, so the sun orbit is always just a little bit different now.
@karyjas17 күн бұрын
@@BigfootMSR I played with a friend and he discovered a way to do good tracking with only one axis and two logic blocks. The solution is placing the daylight sensor on the wall, not the floor, angle does seem to matter

also, 37c can be deadly
@AnonNoplebАй бұрын
It depends a lot on other factors, because it ultimately comes down to if the human body can keep the temperature down. If the air is humid, you are exerting your body and not well hydrated, then yes, 37°C can well be deadly. If you are resting, well hydrated and the air is dry, you can well tolerate temperatures up to 50°C for an extended time
@Ill_touch_your_computerАй бұрын
@AnonNopleb yes I agree but I was just referring to the fact that 37c can be deadly in some cases.
@BigfootMSRАй бұрын
37c is about 98f which is a normal summer day for most of the United States lol. We even had some 40c or 104f days a few times this last summer where I live. It certainly is a bit uncomfortable. We typically set the AC to 23c or 75f during the summer.

For optional framerate, you can turn down terrain/ore distance to minimum, makes a tangible difference. Just in case you haven't yet.
@OwnerOfTheCosmosАй бұрын
Those builds are crazy elaborate! (envy) - During the Stationeers section, I was hoping for you to go outside to see if you still have the terrain/ore rendering sliders up, because setting those to the lowest setting makes a tangible difference. Maybe not when you're already down to 17 FPS, but in principle. I'll assume you have those down, though.
@BigfootMSRАй бұрын
I want to say I just have them on default, but there is a lot of terrain generated in that save. My buddy like to travel a ways. Terrain generation in the existing code is really bad for performance. I think this save was actually created before deep miners were at thing and way before phase change. Its old. It needs to be redone lol.

YAY! New video
@TheKedartАй бұрын
Nice video, I'm enjoying the series. A few things I'm curious about: Is there a reason you use 2x active vent instead of powered vents in your custom airlock? Is it a question of space/layout, or a question of the alloy cost of the powered vents? I get that on Venus alloys are very annoying to make due to the lack of accessible volatiles, but I feel like with how often you have to go in and outside it would be worth it. The 2x active vent setup still seems to be limited (one of the vents has flow rate limited due to the pressure in the pipes) and slow. The other thing that I'm not sure about is setting your transformer to 4990 at the end. That would make sense to me if you were feeding the transformer with a light cable, but the input side is a heavy cable. Wouldn't the 10W cost of running the transformer come from the input (heavy cable) side? In which case it should be fine to set it to 5k. If your input side was also a light cable *then* you should set to 4990 max to avoid burning it out. Or is there something I'm missing?
@NoHypocrisy42Ай бұрын
No on the transformer. It draws from the sub network. Not irl, but. No need for powered vent. Waste of power
@BigfootMSRАй бұрын
The powered vents are still a bit out of the price range, and they would be great for the decompression part, but the re-pressurization bit they are still limited by the pipe network. The active vents will go faster as the pipe network is expanded because they will have more volume to work with. Transformers pull their power from the output side and they consume 10w, so its a way of accounting for that extra bit of power draw.

You don't need the horisontal math, you can just turn the daylight sensor (still lying down) around. It's offset by 90 degrees counter-clockwise
@BigfootMSRАй бұрын
While that is true, that was not the purpose of this video. There are a lot of guides that tell you how to point the sensor a specific direction and the panel another, which is confusing to new players learning the game. This video was to show that none of that is necessary. Really the only thing your saving is a memory and a math unit, you still need everything else.

Congrats on the successful AC setup! No more eating in vacuum at the expense of your lungs. The rubbish is worth more than gold. Put it through a shredder, then centrifuge to get biomass. Furnace the biomass to get lots of volatiles. For more cheese, try to keep the furnace below 300°C to only degas the biomass, shredder and centrifuge that and repeat the cycle.
@BigfootMSR3 ай бұрын
I may go that route for some initial volatiles, but I don't want to cheese the infinite vol out of it.
@AnonNopleb3 ай бұрын
Hold on, did they change the mechanic of a cube of atmosphere spawning if you remove a frame inside the base?
@BigfootMSR3 ай бұрын
Yeah, was a fairly recent change. It does create a vacuum from it as air rushes to fill the void left behind, and when a frame is completed, you get a rush of air out of it from displaced air, which can be damaging. It no longer spawns world atmosphere in its place though.

Cause im cureently working through vulcan (saw they boosted rhe day temps to 1000) And coolings been....abit of a headache. Im wondering what your end goal is for it. Also would vhips for tracking. Like logic chips help? Or is the power/reasources just too much rn
@BigfootMSR3 ай бұрын
Chips could help, but resources are tight. I wanted the IC10 because it only uses 50w, vs the chips would have been 60w. Not a huge deal, but worst case, I can always put up the chips once power is expanded and re use the IC10 for inside. As for cooling the next episode should tackle some basic cooling. On Venus, you are required to use an AC to get some gas cold enough to do phase changes, but on Vulcan, you should be able to use the night time air to make an open loop phase change AC using pollutant.
