Quelle rondeur de son et quelle souplesse dans le déroulé de la mélodie ! Un grand bravo ! Alors que je commence tout doucement à progresser avec le traverso, étant principalement flûtiste à bec.

I think this is close to the original version of this song. I could see the waves at the kokonor lake while riding my camel pass through the journey of silk road.

May I know the reason you recreate Chinese Tang dynasty music through Middle Eastern instruments?

To me, there are some western, probably Celtic flavor in it

You may know about the relationship of the Sodgean merchants trade that connected to that part of China. It was a Persian cultural. When I visited the caves at Dunhuang I saw many depictions of the lute, chang, and other instruments that were used in Persian musical practice. If is thought that the instruments and perhaps some of the musical elements came from what was then Persia. Of course not everyone agrees with this theory and there is much more to discover. Thanks for your interest.

Picken’s transcriptions are too muddled and very inaccurate, some Japanese and Chinese academics and scholars don’t approve.

There are no objectively true interpretation of these scores at the moment. Neither is this a chiefly reconstruction oriented concert. On the contrary, input from musicians done in a responsible way may provide valuable insights to the pieces. Tasteful renditions like this are welcome.

There's nothing wrong with that, the traditional Japanese version is also a great departure from what the original would have sounded like.

So this is supposed to be Central Asian/Tang dynasty Chinese, but it just sounds European on those instruments, like I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it played in an Elisabethan court

Delightful! I am currently learning the version played on a treble viola da gamba. I've got the notes, and am now thinking about speed. This is a helpful performance. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice piece. Is the tune we hear the recorder play originally from the Tang Dynasty? If so, which collection does the original score come from and what are the Chinese characters for the title of the piece? And what exactly is the Yan (or Yang) Dynasty that is referred to in the program notes?
