That is such a good video. You are such a good teacher. It is easy to follow step by step on how to trace from a picture. The only thing is that after we fill in the colours, and add in the shadows and highlights, what do we do next? Do I remove the tracing layers if I want to print my artwork?

Thank you so much for your lovely comments! So glad you enjoyed this. You can either hide the layer, or if you've finished, you can just delete it when you're ready for print. Hope that helps. :) What sort of image did you do?

Thanks a lot Tim! But I am having problems with deleting colors in between the gradient scale. I have to start with solid and then choose gradient to change the gradient itself. It seems the program is not stable yet. In Fresco everything was fine for the time being. In Photoshop there were some bugs as well.

Why not doing the initial tracing directly on Illustrator?
@RedrocketstudioUk
@RedrocketstudioUk Жыл бұрын
Hi - it's much easier to do it in Procreate as it becomes a sketch and it gives it a bit more of a freehand look. However, if you feel comfortable sketching directly into Illustrator, then by all means miss out that step and do it in Illustrator itself.
@CesarJuarezVargas
@CesarJuarezVargas Жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding. Well, starting from the fact that any sketch look has the same origin (a photo), the work of creating the freehand look would be the same with either Illustrator or Procreate. I am not sure were the advantage of using Procreate is versus Illustrator is both start from the same image. Maybe I'm missing something. @@RedrocketstudioUk
@RedrocketstudioUk
@RedrocketstudioUk Жыл бұрын
@@CesarJuarezVargas If you use Illustrator to sketch with, you will get very smooth lines which follow the contours of the photo fairly closely and I find my images look too close to the photo original. By having the inbetween stage of the sketch I find that I am reducing the detail and when I redo the sketch into vector, it's less like the original but more like my own freehand style which was what I was after. Neither way is right or wrong. Just do what works for you. Hope that helps.

A very good lesson for practice and getting more comfortable with the Ipad workspace. If I may suggest to include advice on how to create and save color samples as swatches, HEX / RGB color coding for a more specific reference (or, even better, creating a module describing the importance of a color palette base on corporate identity). Sometimes logos with gradients may be challenging to reproduce on physical material. Therefore, a solid color version could be a great comparison and alternative to work with when a client's identity allow for such. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your feedback. Re the HEX / RGB colour coding - Whilst this is covered in the desktop courses, I haven't gone into detail on this for the iPad versions so that's something I will look at adding in to future courses.

Hi Naomi. In the Jpg export area make sure you have chosen high quality and high resolution. However, if you save as a Png, then change the scale to 4x for a higher quality. You could also save it as a PSD if you have photoshop but one again increase the resolution. 300ppi or higher. I hope this helps. Tim

Hi Tim. @10:21, my Publisher on iPad does not have the shortcut tool. It shows an X (delete) above a trashcan. Searching for "shortcut" on the Help menu tells me about the Command Controller, but that icon doesn't exist on my screen. I pressed the "?" to reveal the purpose of each icon, and none of them are for the Command Controller. Not available in Preferences either. Version 2.0, if that makes any difference. Edit to add: I just updated to Version 2.0.4 and it's not there, either.

This is such a wonderful tutorial, I'm a Procreate user which I very much enjoy but I'm beginning to feel that a more powerful programme may be needed as I'm focusing more on my art nowadays. I've been looking into illustrator and this has really helped me to see whether the programme would meet my needs whilst demonstrating a simple yet well executed project. I'd probably still be using procreate for sketches so it was nice to see you demonstrate the same tactic :)

Hi Mana - Thanks so much for the lovely feedback. I also use Procreate a lot. However, I also use a similar package called Art Studio Pro. It's very similar to Procreate but has a lot of extra features that one gets in Photoshop. Worth a try. Of course it is not vector. If you find that the Adobe packages are too pricy it's worth having a look at Affinity Designer - very similar but there's just a one-off fee. Hope that helps! Tim

Thanks for this demonstration. I have two questions: 1.) Can I open idml files with the iOS app? 2.) How can I get access to/install additional colour profiles?
@RedrocketstudioUk
@RedrocketstudioUk Жыл бұрын
Hi - I haven't been able to find anywhere to install ICC profiles directly. However, Affinity does support opencolorIO which is a colour management system. The best thing to do is to look in the help in Publisher and find Using opencolorIO. This will show you how to configure it in Publisher. Regarding the idml question, yes you can. Just use Import document within the main Open Document area. Don't forget to embed your images into the idml otherwise you'll potentially have to relink them. Hope that helps! Best wishes - Tim

how to showing a ruler in affinity publisher iPad version?
@RedrocketstudioUk
@RedrocketstudioUk Жыл бұрын
Hi. That is a really interesting point. I would love to be wrong and if anyone knows any different, please correct me. However it appears that there are no document rulers in Publisher on the iPad. The closest you can get is by clicking the little Preview mode at the top right hand corner (windscreen wiper icon) and switching on Text Rulers. This will give you a little ruler when you drag out a new text frame. Otherwise you can click the guide settings in the same area and add a horizontal or vertical guide at the very top which you can position with a numeric value just under the horizontal and vertical icon buttons. Of course there is also a grid. Sorry there's nothing more concrete and if anyone discovers anymore, please do comment.
