Awesome but yea I don't see a 60 degree v6 making same if not more power than a 3.8 90 degree there is no room for intake plenum and 60 degree motors weakness was the cam splitting in half in the middle. The forged cranks maybe cause I've seen 1988 tpi 2.8 camaro with 300k on it run 7k and damn near out run a 5.3 ls truck stock 😳 it was surprising but I wouldn't try that with the truck 2.8 it was fuckn garbage either way u look at it. Still awesome tho

B.S. story. Chevrolet could not and did not tell Pontiac what to do either. GM had that policy that nothing was to outshine the Corvette.

I have same truck, just is 93 year. I would like getting a better mpg on a 75 mph speed. Actually at 75 mph, 2500 rpm, truck is 14 mpg comsuption. And at 65 mph, 2250 rpm, truck is 18.8 mpg consuption. I would like the obtein 75mph speed on 2200 rpm and trying to keep the 19 mpg consuption. If somebody know what gear or transm for swaping or any other trick hack, please let me know. Thanks for reading me, Greatings from Arizona. Jc✌🏻

Cool motor but 200hp is probably being generous. And the ridiculous story of it being faster than the corvette is non sense. He’s using the story of the grand national for the fiero. Grand nationals made around 270 hp out of a 3.8 v6 with a bigger turbo than the one shown here. And then to top it off, he said a crank snout ended up a block away during testing. Wow I’m embarrassed for him. Always one of those guys at car shows and swap meets.

Apparently, you do not know as much as you think. The year the Fiero was introduced, the 1984 Corvette came with a boat-anchor, iron block 205hp Chevy 350. That Corvette weighed in at just over 3000#. The base Fiero weighed in at 2458#. In theory, even given the EXACT same horsepower, the Fiero would be faster. Even if the Corvette maintained a torque advantage, overcoming over 560# of weight wouldn't be easy. Other factors would have to determine just how much faster the hypothetical Fiero would be. Also, 'faster' is a generic term. Do you mean in an 1/8 or 1/4 mi. drag race? Top speed? On a road course? Oval? Slalom? Not as 'non sense' as you think, huh? Also, you are comparing apples to oranges when you talk about the GN engine vs. this engine. You are comparing a PRODUCTION engine of the same era to an EXPERIMENTAL engine. You do understand that production engines had to be warranted and repaired if they failed during that period, right? GM was notorious for down-tuning it's engines due to warrant and production concerns. Obviously, there were plenty of SBC 350s that were making more than 205hp in 1984, just not stock in a car you could buy new at your friendly GM dealership. You just can't realistically compare a production engine to an experimental one built for maximum power to find the limits of components. FYI, the 1989 Grand Prix ASC/McLaren turbocharged 3.1 V6, an engine very similar to the one in this video, made 205 WARANTEED thru your local Pontiac dealer horsepower. I've read claims THAT motor was more than capable of close to 300hp without major mods that would have been just as possible to do in 1983. Another engine within the same family with different heads, the 3.4 DOHC, was PURPOSELY down-tuned from it's near ready-for-production 275hp to 215hp when it finally made it into the new GM W-body platform due to warranty concerns over the survivability of the 4spd auto trans. And if you DO want to talk about GN engines, ask any GN owner ,as I have talked to a few about it, THAT engine is capable of quite a bit more horsepower on mostly stock components. I don't know if all the claims made in this video are true, but I do know one thing. For every "one of those guys at car shows and swap meets" there is another guy that THINKS he knows more than they do, and probably doesn't. Maybe it's time for someone else to be embarrassed.

@@lloydeyler8608 Boy, somebody is very sensitive. Since my comment invoked such passion, I’m guessing your that guy I spoke of. Again much like the guy in the video, you are bringing up information that is at best, hearsay. First, every engine is experimental until it’s put into production. That includes the Buick 3.8 turbo. It started with 200hp, then went to 220hp, then once McLaren joined to help, GNX, it went to 276hp, then its final year had 300hp. Do you notice how even it still being in production it’s still slowly being advanced? I can quote dozens of articles from executives at GM stating that they hated the Buick GN because it whooped up on the corvette, and everything else. I’ll state this fact, YOU CANT FIND ONE EXECUTIVE AT GM THAT WAS AFRAID OF THE FIERO SELLING BETTER THAN THE CORVETTE…the GN actually outsold the corvette until mercury marine and lotus developed the ZR1 corvette. I’m not going to respond to the various unrelated bs technical jargon that you again, made up. Embarrassing writing a novel to respond to a rational comment.

@@carrosdiecast3650 You're welcome. Just the opinion of a 18 year technician with a fascination for pumping up odd engine platforms, some with more success than others but to be fair I have been surprised before with builds I wouldnt believe without seeing the dyno numbers myself. I drive around in a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 with a LA 360 transplant with modest mods that makes more power than a generation III hemi especially in the torque department.

If the story of breaking cranks is true at all then it probably was making 300+hp because not many cranks are breaking in the 200 range at all. Being experimental I'm sure they weren't running pump gas and could have been using alcohol or methanol injection and possibly different turbos. That turbo looks more like a final production 60 trim T3 with a stage 5 turbine wheel, it could probably max out around 275 bhp on a 4 cylinder.
@thatfordguy2268
@thatfordguy2268 5 күн бұрын
This is called a blow through setup. You don't have to run an intercooler. It would be advised but not necessary An intercooler just condenses and cools intake air from the turbo.

Nice looking Fiero I just got me an 86 gt. Those mild steel lines that came with it are always rusted out I got 50 miles on it before the transmission cooler line started spraying. I’m getting some stainless lines in cause Fiero tends to live up to its name. If you haven’t replaced fuel and transmission them I would go ahead and do it. Rust is the biggest killer in these cars.

I just picked up a 92 LX 4 door off of a friend that is even dirtier, I bought it last week but I take possession tomorrow. Its an auto, 176k and change, it runs and drives but the TCU is toast. I got into computers instead of cars as a kid so I have been taking classes at the University of KZbin. Sadly I am getting basically zero service records so I have no idea what I am inheriting, hopefully the previous owners kept up on maintenance and I don't have a transmission full of hershey's syrup or an oil pan full of peanut butter.
